Oi, I got a question for u 🫵
Have you ever heard of Cain's Jawbone? (If you haven't, look it up trust it's super cool)
Since you've been the one most interested in Icarus' lore, I'm gonna give you a choice to make >:]
I've been writing it out of order (originally unintentional) but then I realized that that could make it fun
So your choices are:
A. As I write, I order them in timeline order on Icarus' masterclass
Or
B. I keep them out of order, and you + whoever gets interested in his lore has to piece the timeline together, Cain's Jawbone style
The choice is yours >:3c
@ccstiles looked it up and it's a- GASSSSSSPPPP :0
"a murder mystery puzzle"!!!??
DUDE I LOVE THOSE ONES!!!
I would like the challenge! So yeah make it fun for you & have them out of order!
Want to see if any of us can figure it out!
Pg 1 Spoilers/Theories/Rambles
Had to search up quite a few words on this pg ;-;
Setting appears to be on a boat:
Aquarius pen (Possibly fountain pen?) - Zodiac related
I watch the sea
Valetudinarian Walrus - Valetudinarian as an adj means 'showing undue concern about one's health'
In the chine - Chine means 'a steep-sided coastal ravine in Southern England (like Shanklin Chine) OR the sharp angle where a boat's bottom meets its sides'. Southern England mentioned as the author is from South England.
whaups are crying - Whaups are curlews, 'a large wading bird of the sandpiper family, with a long downcurved bill, brown streaked plumage, and frequently a distinctive ascending two-note call.'
flotsam fish - Flotsam refers to 'wreckage, cargo, or debris from a shipwreck or accident that floats on the surface of the water'.
nice gulls love a sailor
Names:
Casy Ferris - Apparent bride to be?
St Lazarus (in the chine)? Using Google, 'The disciple and friend of Jesus raised from the dead by Jesus. He was the brother of Martha and Mary, and resided in Bethany, a suburb of Jerusalem'.
'To-day' is used in the narrative, using google I found out that today stopped being hyphenated around the 1910s. As this was published around 1934, this could be an intentional choice by the author to indicate what time period this specific narrative is set in OR it could be his writing style. Shall update after I've read through more pages.
The speaker seems to think Casy's soon to be husband is being a martyr for marrying Casy and seems really eager to record down any gossip.
Cain's Jawbone
Just received a copy of Cain's Jawbone and wanted to post my theories and stuff here.
Not a big fan of writing in books which is mainly why I created this blog. I won't be tagging spoilers as I've yet to figure how to and I don't think I'll be figuring out the solutions anyway ;-;
This is mainly just a fun hobby to pass the time and everyone is welcome to share their theories too >.<
If anyone has other puzzle books similar to this, please let me know :D
I was gifted a copy of Cain's Jawbone by a teacher and feel like I'm loosing my mind because each of the narrators speaks as if either delirious or doing prose poetry. Or both.
Cain's Jawbone discussions like: "(REDACTED) is definitely my favorite character." "(REDACTED) is your favorite? You mean (REDACTED)'s (REDACTED)? Or (REDACTED)'s (REDACTED)?" "Neither, I mean (REDACTED)'S (REDACTED). You know, the one that's a (REDACTED)." "Oh, (REDACTED)! Yes, everybody loves (REDACTED)."
The Researcher's First Murder is driving me insane
I close my eyes and i just see pages and sentences that haunt me because i can't make head nor tail of what they refer to
I spend an hour on e.g. the wikipedia entry of 'People called Thomas' because i havent worked out a specific enough combination of words to google, in the vague hope i'll stumble across something useful (i don't)
I thought i'd make more progress than i did over betwixtmas where i could dedicate silly amounts of time to it but i think i might just to accept that even if i solved cain's jawbone doesn't mean i'll be able to solve this one (definitely not before the February competition deadline anyway)
Just did a 4-hour session of working over Cain's Jawbone, it takes A LOT to get me to say my brain needs a break...
