Daniel Breaker is a psychic exorcist for CAIN, a global shadow organization dedicated to hunting and eliminating terrifying supernatural monsters known as SINS. Daniel projects a confident facade to hide his unresolved issues. He finds comfort in his companion Sylphie, a sin born from the trauma of losing his fiancée. Sylphie has two forms: a gentle, fox-like creature and a monstrous, hornet-like being. CAIN is a new TTRPG created by Tom Bloom (Magnagothica Maleghast/Lancer RPG), that allows players to step into the shoes of psychic exorcists like Daniel, investigating and battling the nightmarish SINS.
Been having a lot of thoughts about CAIN after the recent drop of Games For Freaks Issue 4. Mostly been working out some ideas for a campaign that ties into the long-term impacts of the 2008 financial crisis + great recession, but also I've been looking into some of the details of what we've learned so far and I think we can begin to put together a list of the members of AUTHORITY! So far, my list is looking like this: Upper First - ??? Upper Second - G. Atlas Upper Third - D. Cross Upper Fourth - J. Maiden Lower First - F. Espada (CASTLE Director) Lower Second - L. Alhambra (TEMERITY Director) Lower Third - ??? Lower Fourth - ??? Most of this information can be parsed from existing scraps of documents in both CAIN and various Games For Freaks issues, some has to be inferred from context. We don't have direct confirmation, for example, that L. Alhambra is Director of TEMERITY, but we do have an official letter with TEMERITY's header written by L. Alhambra to D. Cross, so we can reasonably infer L. Alhambra's role from that.
Aside from these, we have three names that could potentially be AUTHORITY members. One is unintelligible, but the other two are "K. Ennis" and "Prudence". All three of these names were signatories to L. Alhambra's aforementioned letter to D. Cross.
If we assume K. Ennis is part of the Lower Four, then I would probably place them as Lower Third. Given the pattern we've seen of the Lower Four so far, that would also suggest that they are the SEER Director, and thus responsible for the Heaven Eyes, SERAPH, and the freezing/unfreezing of Virtues.
Prudence is interesting. We know that of the Virtues, Prudence does a significant amount of non-exorcist work on behalf of CAIN, including meeting with heads of government. Of the Virtues, it makes the most sense that Prudence specifically would be allowed to be a member of AUTHORITY. If I had to place them, I'd probably put them at Lower Fourth - a significant asset to CAIN's operations, loyal enough to deserve a position, but still walled off from the "higher" ranks of the Upper Four. It would also line up with the mention in the core book that AUTHORITY is half made up of powerful exorcists, given we know at least three already (G. Atlas, J. Maiden, and L. Alhambra).
Anyways there wasn't much point to this post, I just wanted to ramble about CAIN :3
