Maybe Shepard’s hesitating to call everyone because the last time they got together for a mission...it was the war. If he recalls the old crew, is that accepting what this is going to spiral into? Cal’s not ready for another one. He can’t handle that and it’s such a terrifying thought. If he and Kaidan don’t call, they can still bounce around the Terminus Systems and save random colonies and have fun with this new crew and pretend this isn’t going to be a gigantic mess.

He closes his eyes. They know nothing for sure yet. He can’t let himself jump to an end he doesn’t know about. This is what he and his psychiatrist worked on during his recovery--assuming his injuries would never heal, assuming Kaidan would inevitably leave him, assuming suicide was better than any potential future he could have.

Cal scratches at the back of his neck and glances around their apartment. Maybe he should’ve gone with Kaidan after all.

six years later, trying to settle on Cal’s final tattoo designs both pre-Cerberus and post 😩 they were supposed to remake Shepard as a mirror-image but Cal gets woken up before that final bit could be done so he wakes up without any tattoos and it’s a distressing thing to him. he and Ryan have a couple matching ones and those were the first ones he got redone as soon as the SR-2 lands on the Citadel. he gets his black out sleeve again, his two face tattoos, and a quote on his thigh but his original back piece was an octopus that extended to his neck and his ass but he opts not to get it done again. mostly because he’s too busy for something of that size. but i’m undecided what his new back piece will be once he’s recovered enough post-game/right now in my current fic ;(

the only good thing is that the Reds dagger on his upper arm is gone

i think the only new tattoos he gets during ME 2/3 are Grunt’s face on his thigh (he lost a push up competition to Jack while they were very drunk lol) and Kaidan’s name on his forearm along with a (bad) rendition of a heart he drew on Cal. still trying to think of what else he’d have on his right arm

also thinking of Ryan’s tattoos because I’ve decided along with the planets and coordinates he gets with Cal, he has some on his arms. one is a set of jam jars he got with his other two best friends when they were 18 (their initials together are J A R heh). so far all i have for him are an ice cream cone, a violin (he plays bass in his band but he learned the violin first and it is his favorite), and ~something emo~ probably a skull with flowers in its eyes or something lmao. oh, and one of those cheesy hearts with Cal’s name
