I'll take the opportunity, as I am once again replaying ME2, to say how much I love Jacob and Miranda.
I see so many vids and posts saying people just want to be rid of them at the start of ME2 and meanwhile I'm like... But they're really fascinating! And I'm so happy they're there! Sure I will rush to see the old crew back and I miss them, but that doesn't mean Miranda and Jacob don't add something really great to the Mass Effect universe.
Love how Jacob handles Shepard when they wake up: honest but gentle. I also love how he salutes Shepard:
The respect is there from the beginning, and even the Illusive Man is like "oh yeah that man does NOT trust me lmao" and it says a lot about how Jacob is a "what you see is what you get" type. It's honestly reassuring as Shepard wakes up disoriented in a Cerberus facility and needs someone like Jacob to help them.
2. Miranda is obviously one of my favorite characters (have you seen my icon that I haven't changed in more than ten years lol) so I obviously appreciate her in all her glory.
One of my favorite moments is when she said "I got here as soon as I could. Probably a little too soon, if you ask Wilson." and she looks at his corpse because she just shot him. Damn.
But I also find that Miranda can say one thing, and it sounds like she's judging, when in reality she's stating facts.
When Shepard insists on looking for survivors, she tells Shepard: Don't you get it? The only one worth saving is you. Everyone else is expendable.
It's possible to believe at this stage she thinks people are expendable and that she doesn't care at all. But when Shepard tries much later to thank her for the Lazarus Project, she replies:
"I just hope it was worth it. A lot of people lost their lives on that station."
Which to me, indicates that she does care about people losing their lives. And it's the first thing she wants to mention to Shepard too. People dying, and not "Oh thank you I did the impossible, I raised you from the dead, no biggie".
I find that ME2 is a lot about breaking and rebuilding, and both Jacob and Miranda have their own process there. Miranda perhaps more than Jacob, because while I don't want to start a cult member discussion here, I think it takes a lot to see reality for what it is and find strength to leave and save yourself. ME2 is truly a journey I love for them both.
