So my neurologist put my on verapamil this week for my pseudotumor headaches. Thing is, verapamil is also used to treat tachycardia. I had supraventricular tachycardia as a kid, and even after my catheter ablation my resting heart rate is normally 90ish beats per minute, and even when relaxed and lying down it'll still go to 100 (I know this because during my frequent hospital stays for other things, the pulse/heart rate monitors and medical staff will freak out when my rate goes up to a hundred briefly).
Anyway I told neuro that I have lingering tachycardia (and also chronically low blood pressure) and they okay'd me for it still because we're running out of options since I'm allergic to most IIH drugs and can't tolerate the few I'm not allergic to.
I was fine until my third dose last night, at which point my chest started feeling funny. At first I was concerned, because what the hell I don't know how to describe this it's just weird. It's like I'm feeling a skipped heartbeat every other second. At first I was getting ready to ask my roommate to take me to the ER, when it hit me. I was feeling my heart rate slow down to a healthy person's baseline for the first time in twenty years. I am feeling skipped heartbeats, because I'm used to my heart beating rapidly at all moments, but now that it's slowing down it's not beating as much.
It's just a bizarre feeling. I got used to it before I fell asleep, but I took another dose this morning and I'm having to adjust to it again. I'm not concerned, but I keep reflexively coughing because of the weirdness in my chest makes me think I have to cough. It's not a painful feeling, just sort of uncomfortable. Mostly just really fucking weird.
If I don't get used to the discomfort or it gets worse I'll tell my neuro, but it's definitely going to take some getting used to.
