Try This Beer: Caldera Brewing, Ashland, Oregon

In addition to awesome mountain biking and beautiful sights, I wanted to visit lots and lots of breweries on our honeymoon road trip. Our first brewery stop was Caldera Brewing in Ashland, Oregon. こんばんは. 今日はカルデラブリューイングのインディアペールエールをご紹介します. Citra, Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo という4種のホップを使用したアメリカンスタイルのインディアペールエールです.

香り(Aroma)：モルト由来のブレッドのような香りとホップ由来のみかんの缶詰のような甘くてジューシーなオレンジの香り，マンゴーやパインアップルなどを思わせるトロピカルフルーツの香りが豊かです. This beer has an smell of bread from malt and a juicy orange fragrance, tropical fruit aromas of mango, pineapple in rich.

味(Palate)：非常にしっかりとしたベースモルトの味わいがビールの骨格として存在します. ホップ由来のシトラス(特にオレンジを思わせるフレーバーが非常に豊か)とパインアップルのフレーバーが豊かです. 苦味は IBU(国際苦味単位)が示すように強いですが，モルトの甘味がしっかり感じられるのでそこまで苦く感じないと思います(温度が高くなるにつれて苦味を感じやすくなる). 草っぽさは適度です. This beer has a very decent malty taste as base of it, rich citrus (especially orange) and pineapple flavor in rich and a moderate grassy savor. The bitterness of hop is strong as the value of IBU, but you maybe feel milder than expected because of the sweetness of malt (feel stronger with higher temperature).

総合(Overall)：4種のアロマホップ(シムコーとセンテニアルはビタリングホップとしての役割がある)が付与するフレーバーが非常に豊かに感じられるアメリカンスタイルインディアペールエールでジューシーなシトラス，トロピカルフルーツフレーバーが美味しかったです. 確かに IBU は高いですが，モルトの味わいがしっかりしている分バランスが取れており，苦すぎず IPA 好きの方なら満足出来る味わいだと思います. レビューサイトで高得点を獲得しているのも頷けます. IPA がお好きな方は是非お試し下さい. This is an American-style IPA rich in citrus and tropical fruit flavors given by four kinds of aroma hops (Simcoe and Centennial are for dual purpose). Certainly, the value of IBU is very high, but this beer is balanced because of the decent sweetness of malt. You should try this if you love IPAs, Very Good.

追記：モルトの味わいがしっかりとした IPA なのでセッション・インディアペールエールや飲みやすい(ドリンカブルな)インディアペールエールがお好きな方にはやや濃い目かもしれません.

Caldera was founded about 17 years ago in Ashland by head brewer Jim Mills. They started with a small tap house and have since expanded to a state of the art 28,000 sq. ft. brewery which features a tasting room and restaurant.
