Vintage Violence ramble...
I started getting into jc in very early 2024. It was February i think. When I'm curious about getting into a band/musician, I listen to their general artist playlist and/or start from the very beginning; their first album. I was in my pre-calc class in my senior year, and we had some free time. I thought it was a good opportunity to listen to the album. I was pretty amazed. It didn't sound like anything he did with the velvets (I was already a vu fan and was already into Lou's solo stuff, and I knew that john was outta the group too). I was surprised to hear a sort of countryish(?) album. Also that same day I heard Nico's Chelsea Girls album. :)
The songs:
I was surprised at Hello There like gee this is funky... But when I heard Gideon's Bible... I was in. love. I've already explained somewhere about what I love about that song... and it's everything. I like the cute songs like Adelaide and Cleo. Fun fact Cleo was actually one of my top fav jc songs for a long while (at this point I'd rank it lower, but I'd say it's still there).
I like all the other songs too, but one I didn't recognize till last year was Please. That one is so beautiful... I also love Wall (which is found on a later reissued? version of VV, which is the version i have) because of its drone and those pulses jc does on viola.
Thats all I can think of for now, but yeah, I love Vintage Violence. I love singing the whole album, and I appreciate it as jc's first so much.
