Okay, this one took me a bit because I haven’t thought about Caroline in a Hot Minute and seeing her name took me off guard lmao
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon
Maeve — likes: quiet mornings with her partner, warm breads with far too much butter on top, being challenged by new terrain while traveling with her companions (she’ll complain, but she truly enjoys it), experimenting with new types of writing/song. Dislikes: absolutely despises getting her stockings/feet wet, the cheap drinks that are served in many taverns, perpetually pessimistic folk, those who judge a book by its cover.
Caroline — likes: a good playlist, helping her mom prep food (because they blast music and singalong while doing so), graphic tees, vigilante training sessions where she actually goes out into the streets to try things. Dislikes: those “found the feminist” jerks, when someone talks about their passion and somebody puts them down about it, those people in video game voice chats who don’t put their mics on push-to-talk and have their keyboard sounds coming through the entire match, h o m e w o r k.
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
Maeve — it took her embarrassingly long to get good at it, but Maeve can proudly say that she knows how to make at least one thing perfectly and it’s her cinnamon swirl bread. She’s always childishly excited to share it with her friends, because it’s such a known Thing that she’s dreadful at cooking but this is something she does well and it’s gratifying seeing the surprise on their face when they try it.
Caroline — because her mom owns a diner, Caroline eats a ridiculous amount of french fries covered in cheese. It’s her usual order and already prepared for her if she texts her mom that she’s gonna be heading to the place after school or “dance class”.
☠ - angry/violent headcanon
Maeve — is definitely an angry crier. She would get so angry but would hardly get the opportunity to release those emotions for nearly a decade, so they forced themselves out through tears as she got worked up. Adamantly refuses to get embarrassed about this though, especially in the couple of years after being freed from Carden when she is re-teaching herself how to express and explain her feelings. Sometimes it takes her a little bit to get the words out because she keeps stopping to curse and compose herself, wiping at the tears that won’t go away, but that’s fine because she’s making progress and she shouldn’t feel bad about having these overwhelming feelings because at least she’s having them (had a few points with Carden where she believed she was losing that ability, numbing herself so many times to avoid hurting so much).
Caroline — often resorts to the “frickin’ fight me” type of response when she gets angry because she hasn’t grown enough to develop or work on any other. If someone sets her off in public she’ll be ready to jump at them and needs a friend or family member to hold her back, because she’s ready to go. Shows sometimes through her smacking or kicking objects that irritate her as well. She’s… trying to work on it, for her mom’s sake. (She uses this trait as an excuse for why she sometimes comes home with injuries, lying that she got angry again and hurt herself.)
✿ - Sex headcanon
Okay so, because Caroline’s supposed to be a teen (and not a teen from the CW where they’re all sleeping with each other for Some Reason), I’m gonna opt out here and just give 2 for Maeve because that’s simpler for my brain this morning.
Maeve — is very.. vocal, if y’know what I mean. Hope those walls aren’t thin or else you’re going to know Exactly what she and her partner are up to.
— having her hair braided is a very intimate and calming thing for Maeve, and is 👌👌 for any aftercare with her. It’s also a way to help ground her and remind her that she’s Safe if she suddenly gets triggered by something during sex that brings on a negative response, usually because of Carden memories.
20. Do they like to be alone with themselves often or surrounded by friends?
Maeve despises being alone, and does everything she can to avoid it. She spent 7 years feeling like she was alone and trapped (with only small and rare moments of relief in between), which is why she’s always traveling with her companion(s) or finding the busiest location in the village/town/city she’s in so that she can be surrounded by people and connect with them.
Tricky for Lysandra. For the longest time she wanted to be and liked being alone, outside of the occasional times she would leave to visit Lucine or have her over (she was the only exception, truly). BUT when she reaches that point in her life when she starts to crave the companionship and is convinced to leave her cave in the mountains, she starts to try and be surrounded by friends. It’s difficult because she only has like,, four friends and she has trouble getting more, but she’s trying and that’s what counts.
Milena is… hm. I think that she loves to be around friends, but hits a Limit where she needs to retreat into her own and recharge her social meters. She’d maybe let one or two people around during those times, but I think it comes down to a mix of both. 30% alone, 70% surrounded by friends.
35. How do they respond to being criticized for their shortcomings?
Maeve will laugh it off usually, especially if it’s from someone she doesn’t consider a close friend. She will only really accept criticism from them, because they actually Know her enough to realize that some of her perceived shortcomings are part of the mask of hers that she puts up. She might get her feelings hurt a little bit, but if the topic is approached gently enough then it will likely continue with her asking for ways they think she can improve on the issues.
Lysandra legit does not give a fuck what anyone has to say. She knows her shortcomings, is trying to work on them in her own time, and if anyone tries to point something out they’re lucky if she even gives a wordless huff of acknowledgement before moving on. (Maybe has,,, one or two people close enough to her that she will listen to with sincerity.)
Milena is probably the easiest of the group, because she will set aside what she’s working on to have a genuine talk about this sort of subject without so much as a complaint or moment of looking offended. She’s of the belief that she was put in this world and given her gifts to Help people, and if she’s failing in some way because of some unconsidered shortcoming then she is all ears.
Isseya isn’t someone I’ve gone very deep into thought with this type of thing, hm.. Mayhap some hand restraints, blindfolds, throw in a little bit of a praise kink for this girl as well because she just works for that all day/every day anyway.
🍬 Is my muse a sub, dom, or switch?
Maeve is a switch! She can swap it up depending on the mood or what her partner prefers, but often leans more toward that dom role because of her tendency to be the one who makes the first move.
Isseya has,,, the Biggest sub energy, and that’s that on that.
🎆 Is my muse into monogamy?
A yes for both of them!
💕 Would my muse ever be in a polyamorous relationship?
Not to repeat but it’s another yes for both of them. I can very easily see this as something Maeve would be into because she has a lot of love to give and is very big into the Communication between partners thing after Carden, and there has actually been some conversation with the world’s DM for Isseya to potentially be in a poly relationship!
💑 What are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?
(This won’t have every requirement because that’d take forever but there’ll be a few for each.)
Maeve—BIG D–ecisive. Okay, okay. Terrible misleading joke aside: honesty is the biggest must for Maeve. She was manipulated for nearly 7 years by her ex-husband and is a bit sensitive in the Deception department, admittedly she may sometimes make a bigger deal out of small things because she can’t take being lied to by those she thinks she trusts. Patient, affectionate, sincere, good humored, considerate/attentive, etc etc with all those traits. They also need to be understanding and supportive of her goals when it comes to her writing or else they simply,,, will Not vibe, because her works mean a lot to her and she can’t see herself being with someone who doesn’t have an interest in them or potentially looks down on them.
Isseya—you must have an Intelligence score of 17 or more for Isseya to even Consider looking at you like that. (…mostly a joke.) She’s another who needs patience from a partner, but that’s because it takes her a good while to develop any sort of romantic/sexual attraction to people and they may need to wait some time if they have an interest in her. A potential partner must share at least 2-3 passions of Isseya’s, or else she will not be able to feel comfortable with the lack of shared interests. They must also be understanding of the dedication she has signed herself up for by deciding to follow in her father and grandfather’s footsteps of working to become High Arcanist of Cara’shaal, because it comes with a lot of responsibility. Those are the basics that I can think of.
💘 What are the ways my muse says ‘I love you’ without actually saying it?
Answered for Maeve here!
For Isseya the big one is her putting aside work to pay attention to or spend time with someone, not something she would do for just anyone. Sharing her spell components is one, though that is a bit dependent on the person. She will often do little… chores/tasks for people she loves, to take some of the burden of effort off their shoulders.
4, 6, 14, 18, 23, 30 aaand 32 for the wonderful Maeve!
4) is your oc respectful of others?
Depends on the person really. There are some obvious folk that she’d be crazy not to respect, but when it comes to a lot of people Maeve feels that respect must be earned.
6) is your oc comfortable with themselves?
Mm… it’s a work in progress. The years with Carden really did a number on her and (to her endless frustration) it’s taking her quite some time to separate all of the lies he told her so very often that she confuses for truth. She does a very good job at faking that she’s comfortable though, only those closest to her can notice the insecurities and moments of hesitation.
14) is your oc a good listener?
Being a good listener is essentially part of her job. She talks a lot during her interviews with Witchers, as an example, but it’s never pointless comments or random interjections. She prompts them on new subjects when they’re stuck, or finds a question/comment that will encourage them to continue with their current topic. Even if she’s looking down during conversation, she’s simply taking notes of the talk at hand and is most assuredly still actively listening.
18) is your oc a procastinator? if they are, what’s an example of how much?
Not at all. Whether it’s making progress on her current work by writing, or following around the Witcher who will be the subject of her next one, she’s usually always working.
23) what is something really dumb that irritates your oc a lot?
Answered here!
30) which highschool movie stereotype would they fit best?
Went to google for this one and found The Ditzy Diva With A Heart Of Gold And A Brain That Doesn’t Quit, that one sounds fitting.
32) which one of the 7 deadly sins fit your oc more? do they see it as a flaw?
l u s t but we all knew that. Maeve herself doesn’t see it as a flaw, and it plays a big part in her “taking back my own body and choices by embracing my sexuality” thing that she’s got going on.
calebs-apprentice replied to your post: We finally played my campaign for the first time...
Holy shit how’d it go? Well done on getting through it!
Thanks!! It uh- ... it went? I feel like I blacked out through most of it, likely because I was running on a very low amount of sleep for the entirety of it. There was some fun had but combat was a son of a bitch to handle, why do people DM when you have to run battles this is ridiculous.
I rolled at least four Natural 1s for enemies making attack rolls, so that was the highlight for me. A dice curse on the first session.
5, 6, 10, 18, 26, 31, 32, aaaand 41 for Elide, Maeve and Isseya?
thank you!!! took a hot minute but we’re out here with some thots // character development questions: hard mode
On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
Elide — one or two rings that she got tired of wearing, the compass she got from Rowan years ago, Dirge’s magical ribbon (that can open a portal to into a pocket dimension once a week), a spare pen, assorted tinkering materials that she forgets to put away.
Maeve — a mini leather journal with a pen (both wrapped in a leather chord to keep together and shut), her coin purse, various hair pins kept there as extras or removed from her hair during the day, probably a small collection of notes that come from people she cares for and wants to keep close, likely some kind of make-up.
Isseya — I don’t think she has much of anything in her pockets because she has a habit of placing things on surfaces around her or directly into her pack(s), not into her pockets.
Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?
Honestly, Elide has nightmares more often than dreams lately, but when she does get to dream it’s usually over sappy things like the quiet life back on Lansing or how she imagines her future family with Tyrus when things are at peace. An occasional naughty dream but she deserves it for the nonsense she deals with.
Maeve has constant naughty dreams, but any other dream is usually her replaying happy memories in a very,,, rose-tinted glasses sort of way. They’re certainly good memories to begin with, but her mind makes them even sappier or softer.
Isseya dreams of discovery and experimentation, exploring and creating. She’s as dedicated to her magical studies in her sleep just as much as she is in her waking hours, although a bit more fantastical in her imaginings. Sometimes spirals into her romanticizing the more darker elements of the arcane because she believes she could handle it just fine.
Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?
Elide is boring in the fact that she’s fairly neutral here, doesn’t mind either or. If forced to give an answer, more comfortable with less clothing because of her time on the Lansing island and general enjoyment for being tiddies out.
Answered for Maeve here!
Isseya is more comfortable with lesser clothing simply because it’s easier to move about (for travel, spellcasting, running about a library, etc). She’s not against having numerous layers, but with her style of casting and tendency to move around a lot while thinking/talking less is better.
Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others?
Elide is... weird, because it’s a mix of both for her. She’s a Westenra and they’re known for their ambition, she has a metric fuck ton of it herself and thoroughly enjoys seeing it in others, but for her it must be balanced out by one’s wisdom. Blind ambition can only get you so far, and almost always into trouble in the end, and she can’t admire or respect that lack of foresight or attention to detail.
Maeve admires ambition but that shouldn’t surprise anyone, she’s had to build her own ambition and that has mostly come from admiring it in the people that she has traveled and spent time with. There’s a certain... attractiveness to her in ambition, whether it come in small or big displays.
Isseya is a funny case because you’d think she would admire wisdom the most (as influence from her grandfather, who’s a master of arcane and druidic power alike), but because of her own surprising amount of ambition she gravitates towards it in others. She could ramble about her own any day of the week, but could listen to others talk for hours about whatever goal they’re passionate about.
How does your character behave around children?
Elide is a friggin’ natural when it comes to children, it comes as no surprise when she tells someone that she’s always wanted a family of her own because she does so well with kids. She’s very skilled at getting children to calm down by helping them explain what is currently upsetting or angering them, giving them an open ear, comforting touches and offering up words to fill in the gaps of their explanations that they cannot. She’s also quite good at encouraging learning in kids, whether it be obvious or more subtle in her approach, and giving them praise for doing so successfully. Cannot be outmatched in cranking up the drama on her accent to amuse kids with how she pronounces things. Wait she’s also very good at early insight/reading training with kids because while reading them stories, she’ll ask them why they think a character has taken the action that they did and talks through it with them. (I could talk about Elide with children forever but am forcing myself to stop)
Maeve is excitable around children and always tries to encourage excitement or joy in them. She’s definitely not the Perfect role model (she tries but occasionally will let out a curse, some naughty joke, or a gruesome detail from a hunt) but she’s for sure a wonderful influence for both positivity and creativity. At her best with kids when telling them a tale or two, completely immersed in her storytelling and attempts at encouraging them to participate in the story by asking them what they think happened next or what kind of monster was behind it all. Also very good at lullabies for younger children! General vibe is that she wants to make a kid feel included and happy because she knows how it feels to go without.
Isseya shifts into adorkable teacher mode with kids, ngl. She researches and learns about so very many things, that if a kid asks about or shows an interest of their own in one she’ll dive right into it with them. She’s wildly patient with children and has no issues at all repeating things, or going over them numerous times until they sink in and they’re ready to move onto the next point. Very good at helping overactive minds calm and focus because she suffered the same issue as a kid, likes to help as much as she can in this area. Enjoys doing magic shows for kids of any age, as entertainment for the younger ones and then potential examples for the older ones who may want an explanation on the arcane after.
Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.
Elide — highkey anywhere with Tyrus, no joke. He radiates comfort and warmth to her, and when he’s holding her she feels safe no matter the circumstance. She needn’t hide any part of her from him, nor he from her, and it’s the most comfortable she could ever feel.
Maeve — curled up in a robe with one of her favorite books, one [or more] of her witchers around because she feels safe and comfortable with them around. It keeps her mind from wandering into negativity if she can focus on something she enjoys and has someone she trusts nearby.
Isseya — huddled in a nook of her family’s library, surrounded by books, tomes and scrolls of all sizes, relaxed into a nest of blankets and pillows. The ar’Thallan home has always felt untouchable in her eyes because her parents and grandfather are so powerful, she could never feel anything but comfortable there, especially so in the library surrounded by so much knowledge.
Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable.
Elide — lying to her loved ones, at any point. She has little to no qualms about lying to others to get further in her quest, but if it comes to her deceiving a loved one then she has a hard time doing so and it’s hard for her to ignore or hide.
Maeve — returning to the Sommers estate for the first time in years, left alone in the dining room for one minute too many and having all of those horrible memories of Carden come rushing back in without consent. It’s supposed to be her home, but she doesn’t feel safe or comfortable or happy and it’s horrible--until her companion calls in the distance and she can pull herself away.
Isseya — god, I’m struggling for her ngl. The big meta knowledge is her having no choice but to enter an anti-magic area, stripping her completely of her power and ability to defend herself or escape. She relies so heavily on her magic that it would be a nightmare to go without it.
Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?
Well, Elide used to think that she deserved it, but now she thinks it must be earned because that’s the only way she’ll get what she desires, by dedicating her time and effort to her goal. Oh the joys of being forced into a horrifying quest where it feels like you’re the only one working to destroy the enemies.
Answered for Maeve here!
Isseya for sure feels that she must work to earn what she wants, and that comes from the general Effort and Time it takes to become a wizard, on top of her mother’s background that led to lessons in having to work for something to get it. Adahlena was never handed anything in the woods because she simply wanted it, she had to hunt for it, or trade, or scavenge,,, yeah. Isseya is spoiled, but it’s because she works so hard on her studies and deserves it.
