“Thank you babe.” Cale says as you hand him a coffee you had just made him. “You’re welcome!” You say as Cale smiles adoringly at you. “So.. are you ready to go to my parents house?” You ask, sitting down next to Cale at the kitchen island. “Yeah. This is like the 4th Christmas I’ve been to at your parents house, but I’m glad I get to go with my favorite person in the world.” “What about your mom?” You ask giggling, looking up at him. “Whatever.” He says, rolling his eyes playfully at you while getting up from the island. “Start getting ready babe! You know how strict my mom is about being late!” You say jokingly, yelling after Cale, still laughing. “Yes ma’am.” Cale says, turning around and giving you a wink before turning around and continuing walking to the kitchen to the shared bedroom.
11:30 THAT SAME DAY
Cale steps into the house with you right behind him as your whole family starts greeting you two. “Cale! Y/N! How are you?” Your mom says, walking out of the kitchen. “Hey mom!” You say stepping in front of Cale to hug your mom. “Hi Mrs. Y/M/N!” Cale said as he hugs her after you go to your dad and start hugging him. “Hey Cale.” Your dad says as Cale and your dad do that little handshake guys have. You then start talking to the rest of your family, not noticing that Cale, your mom, and your dad had stepped away into a more private room.
“What's up Cale?” your mom asks with her hands resting on her hips, standing next to your dad and in front of Cale as Cale shuts the door. Cale takes a deep breath. “I have a question to ask both of you.” Cale says, cheeks heating up. You parents look at each other before looking back at Cale. “Y/N is the most beautiful, intelligent, and kindest person I’ve even met. We’ve been together for almost 5 years and I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else but her. I’ve known I want to marry her for a while now, so I am here to ask you guys for your blessings. ” Cale says nervously, waiting for your parents response. It takes a moment for your parents to say something. “Y-yes!” Your mom says, tearing up while hugging Cale. “Please take care of her.” Your dad says. “Yes sir.” Cale says while shaking his hand. You three went back into the room and went on with the day.

APRIL 4, 2021
“You ready, gorgeous?” Cale asks while standing in the doorway of the bathroom, looking at you though the mirror while you put the last finishing touches on your hair. “Mhm!” You say, walking out of the bathroom. You were wearing a short flowy red dress with a pair of black sandals. A few minutes later, you were walking out of the apartment you and Cale shared. You had no idea where you and Cale were going. All you knew was that Cale looked really handsome in a suit he usual only wears to games and he wanted to show you something in this really pretty park he had found. You had no idea how he found it or why he wanted to go while it was dark outside, but here you two were, on the way to the park but little did you know, Cale had big plans. He had hired the best photographer he could find and had lights set up at the park in the gazebo.
A few minutes later you two were walking hand in hand down a little dirt path. Cale started swinging your hands back and forth when you spotted the pretty gazebo wrapped in fairy lights. You gasped. “Babe! That is so pretty!” Cale chuckled as the photographer who was hidden behind some bushes got a picture of your reaction to the pretty gazebo. You and Cale had finally reached the gazebo and stepped inside. You started looking at your surroundings, facing in the direction away from Cale as he got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his back pocket. The photographer got a few pictures of that too. You turned back to face Cale when you found Cale on one knee. You covered your mouth with one hand as you started to cry happy tears. The photographer came out of the bushes and started taking pictures. A lot of pictures. “Y/N Y/L/N, will you make me the happiest hockey player in the world and marry me?” Cale said smiling up at you. You nodded your head rapidly while Cale stood up and slid the diamond ring on your finger and pulled you into a kiss. A few moments later, you had stopped crying the happy tears but couldn’t stop staring at your ring. “I still can’t believe we’re engaged!” You said, jumping up and down like a little kid while Cale laughed. “Me neither baby, me neither.” Cale said wrapping his arms around your waist while you burring your face into his chest. “I love you Cale.” “I love you too Y/N. More then you’ll ever know.”
round of silence for this version of cale, gif fits so perfectly.
soooo, we seem to think that cale is the sweetest player around (i mean look at those cheeks!!!!) however, this imagine is gonna be angsty and drama filled. cool? enjoy!

Hazel guilty eyes and little white lies
Yeah, I played dumb but I always knew
That you'd talk to her, maybe did even worse
I kept quiet so I could keep you
« »
"I know you're lying to me Cale, I can see it on your face." I exclaimed, as Cale tried to look anywhere but my eyes. He knew that once he did, he was done for. I scoffed, turning away from him as I cried. I wrapped my arms around my torso, and sobbed. "y/n...." Cale softly murmured, and I whipped around pointing at him. "NO! You do not get to say all the right things now. You have no right, after what you've done. You don't think I didn't notice you looking at your phone more and more? I know you were talking to her after I introduced you two!!!!! But I can't stay quiet anymore, I just can't. It's killing me inside, I can't take you hazel eyes looking past me, when they should be looking at me. I can't take the white lies you give me or when I know you aren't really at a team meeting. I am not playing dumb anymore, so please. Please just get out." I said pointing towards the door, huffing as I try to control my breathing. He walked towards the door and stopped before he walked out, "And don't you ever come back." I said finally and then I heard the familiar click of the door. I leaned against the pillar in my Denver apartment, and sobbed. I felt the inside of my heart breaking more and more with reality setting it. He's a traitor, and I know he will be running to her as soon as he hits the road. I'm not stupid, but I am a fool for believing him for so long.

And ain't it funny
How you said you were friends?
Now it sure as hell don't look like it
« »
You ran to her as soon as you could, 2 weeks later I saw a post on instagram. From somebody who I thought was a friend, but no. She only wanted to be my friend to take you away. You fucking betrayed me, yet I know neither of you will ever feel sorry for the way you hurt me. You didn't neccessarily cheat on me, but I saw those hidden phone conversations you didn't want me to know about. I remember Bo telling me that I was just paranoid over nothing. Yet, he was not the one who you were talking too. You would leave the room for 5, 10 minutes sometimes and come back so distant. And then leave shortly after, claiming you had a team meeting or wasn't feeling well.
It did not matter that I loved you at your worst. I stuck by you through thick and thin, but I get it. She's perfect. She's gonna be your trophy wife someday while I am hopefully married to somebody who wouldn't think twice about cheating or stepping out on me. They won't say, "No, were just friends." Because it sure as hell didn't look like that. I won't be so stupid next time, and face the facts head on.
« »
Now you bring her around
Just to shut me down
Show her off like she's a new trophy
« »
It was a month ago, when you brought her to a party for the team. Bo just so happened to convince me to come, claiming that you wouldn't even be showing up. I was in the kitchen of Gabe's place and you walked in with her. I came back into the living room, stopped and stared at the one person I hoped to have not seen. You knew I was there, but did not acknowledge me which I was grateful about. I slammed my drink into Bo's chest, before securing my bag on my shoulder and walked out. I slamemd the door, hoping it would break. Just like you broke my heart.
But I get it, you did it because I was there. Somebody tipped you off, and told you. You did it to rub it in my face, that I was not enough for you. God, it was like you were trying to show her off, but hey I get it. She's gonna be your trophy wife someday. She has that perfect look for a hockey player, unlike I. But that's what you loved most about me. You loved how unlike I was other girls that honestly, threw themselves at hockey players. I still remember your mom telling me, that she was glad he hadn't chosen anybody else. That I was the perfect girl for you, inside and out. But hey, I get it. You gotta play the perfect part. So every party I now go to, there's always some way you gotta make a point. May it be dancing, karaoke or even playing beer pong. All of which, you never liked doing before. So maybe she is good for you, she got you out of your comfort zone.
It's like you have something to prove, by showing her off. Does it make you feel more like a man by doing so?
« »
Ain't it funny
All the twisted games
All the questions you used to avoid?
« »
"You're being a fucking psychopath right now- you know that?" Cale threw at me as I stood in front of him. Questioning him once again, about why he missed my work gala before. "Really? God, you are so comical Cale." I said grabbing my bag to leave his condo. "Comical? You're asking me where I was last night? You're so controlling." He rasped as I began to walk away. "You promised you'd be there Cale! You promised me and then you weren't there. Remember the gala you told me you were going to be accompanying me to? For my job? Oh wait- Hockey trumps all in this household right? Anybody that doesn't posess a dick and chase a puck for a living has no precedence in your life, huh? I'll have to remember that next time, when I ask you to do anything for me." I brushed past him and walked out. He hadn't answered any questions I had asked. Why he missed the event, where was he, why was he being so secretive. He made up lies, and tried to manipulate me and make me feel like I was the problem, that he needs time away from me. Yet, I wasn't the one who had just gotten back from a week roadtrip two days prior. How was I the needy one? When we barely saw eachother, as it is.

God, I wish that you had thought this through
Before I went and fell in love with you
When she's sleeping in the bed we made
Don't you dare forget about the way
You betrayed me
« »
I wish Bo had never pushed us two together, two years ago at that party for a game of charades. I wish you had never given me the look, that made me fall for you in that moment. That look of innocence, charm and wit. The one that sucked me in, and had me until recently. I wish you had saved me time and energy and said no to playing, I would have taken the brief sense of embarrassment than this backstab. I wish you had never said those words, that secured our relationship. The one's that promised a long future ahead, with marriage, more dogs, a house and kids. One's that promised a secure future, which deemed you worthy for me. One that could provide a somewhat stable and healthy home. My fucking weakness when it came to my future. But I hope that when you lie awake at night, with her next to you in the bed we made that you see how much you betrayed me. I hope you see me thriving, happy and healthly as you close your eyes. And then lie awake, thinking of how good you had it and what your future won't include. It won't include the white picket fences, sex in the morning Canadian sun, the Sunday waffle food fights, or the sunset's in Calgary. It won't include me. I hope that when you lie awake, you realize how much you betrayed me.
« »
Everybody thinks you are so innocent, and that you could never hurt a fly. Hmm, makes me laugh everytime somebody brings you up. You are so far from the perfect image your PR has made you out to be. You are a schemy and manipulative human being, that I am glad I'll never speak to again. In the end, you betrayed me. You betrayed my trust, love and kindness. You used me until you found the pefect one. You used me until you found your trophy. And yeah, you can still parade her around in front of me but know that I did no wrong. And everyday, you will have to bear that guiltiness I know about. The one that Bo goes on and on about, hoping you will come to your senses and try to make amends with. You will have to bear the very sight of me as I thrive, and move on with my life. And realize that you fucked up, and that you have no place in my life. And I knew we weren't pefect but I had never felt that way about anybody. And I just can't imagine how you could be so okay now that I'm gone. Never to speak to me again, and I hope that drives you crazy and keeps you up at night.
And now you'll bear the very sight of me, from across the room. One that never gives you the satisfaction of looking over, in the very dress you once loved on me.

It was my worst nightmare. The power going out. Call me a baby, but I have always hated the out of nowhere darkness, and that is what just happened. I was in the middle of getting ready for bed, and this just had to happen. I sighed, cursing the world. Why couldn’t this have happened when Cale was here? He of course had to leave, an hour beforehand. I groaned picking up my phone, debating if I should call Cale or Mel. Mel has been my rock since joining the wags, and honestly- we were on the same wavelength. Scared of the dark, and all.
I went to the group chat that held EJ, Nate us two and Mel/Gabe. Mel and Gabe had always treated me like a little sister, so we were the closest to them two out of the bunch. I sighed thinking of what was gonna be thrown my way by EJ though. And knew Nate was gonna judge the heck out of me.
Y/n: somebody wanna tell me why my powers out??
Y/n: and now I gotta go light like 30 candles just so I can sleep
Y/n: fuck whoever thought It was convenient to think of power outages
EJ: somebody scared of the dark? Lol
Gabe: yeah aren’t you like 23?
Mel: shut your traps
Mel: are you ok?
EJ: lest we forget about Mel being scared too
EJ: Also you’ll start a fire if you light that many candles
Nate: Yeah we dont need to hear about your house burning down.
Y/n: omg
Y/n: so rude
Cale: im coming back over
Y/n: NO you have a early practice tomorrow
Y/n: just needed to vent
Nate: yeah thanks for waking me up
EJ: ^^^^^
Mel: omg stop it
Mel: be nice.
Gabe: let me go back to my a/c room
Y/n: you guys are horrible !
Y/n: especially you Gabe— how dare you bring up ac !!!
Cale: yeah, low blow dude
Mel: ^^^
What? I couldn’t do anything without a/c. Especially not when it was 80’s degrees outside.
Y/n: y’all are mean, if you dont hear from me in the morning
Y/n: just assume im dead
Gabe: oh no! The horror!
Gabe: good night
EJ: wouldn’t bat an eye
Nate: yeah, wouldn’t be like we’d miss you anyways
Mel: I can’t believe I call you guys my friends and my husband
Mel: ashamed to know you
EJ: you know you love us Mel!
Nate: we would miss you mel, besides Gabe wouldn’t be able to survive without you
Gabe: its true. I’d be dead
Y/n: hate you all goodnight
Gabe: where’s Cale??
Mel: saving his woman unlike you who’d leave me for the wolves
And just like that, I heard a knock at my door. I peeped through the door’s window and sighed. I opened it quickly, pulling him in to trap whatever ac was left. “I thought I told you to not come back.” I said exasperated. “I don’t care!” He exclaimed, “I could never leave you alone to fend for yourself.” He said cheekily as we walked into the living room. I playfully slapped his arm as we sat down. He turned on his phone’s flashlight, in addition to mine already being on. “Hi.” He said giving me a soft smile. “You okay?” He questioned putting a comforting hand on my leg. I nodded, resting my head on the back of my couch. “Such an eventful way to end the night.” I mused, half joking. “Do you wanna finish getting ready for bed?” He asked and I nodded. He got up, extending his hand for me and I gratefully took it. We walked towards my bedroom, and he accompanied me to my bathroom. "Ill be back in a few minutes, ok?" he said gaging my response. I nodded, smiling softly. I grabbed my tooth brush and toothpaste, and began to brush my teeth. A few minutes later, I tied my hair up in a loose scrunchie to pineapple my hair, before walking out.
My heart stopped, as I looked around as saw candles around my room. Cale came back in with another one in his hand, setting it on my nightstand to match the other. My mouth turned into a smile, and I walked towards him to wrap my arms around his waist. I laid my head on his back, "You have no idea what this means, thankyou." I exclaimed. He turned around in my arms and he cupped my face with both his hands. "Ofcourse. We can't have my girl, freaking out." He mused before giving me a big kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss before parting.
"Okay Makar, time for bed." I mused hopping on the other side, and him standing next to his side of the bed. He immediately pulled me into his side, after discarding his shirt and pants. He traced mindless circles on my arm, comforting me. "I wanna kill Gabe." I joked, and Cale chuckled. "Oh yeah, get in line. I think Mel has beaten you to it." He mused, making me giggle. "How dare he use a/c against me." I said in a sarcastic tone, and he nodded. "Very low blow." he mused. "Very." I said softly. It was a few minutes later, and I was slowly falling into a light sleep, I heard the distinct a/c vent turn on. I shot up, with Cale chuckling. "LET THERE BE POWER!!" I eclaimed jumping up and turning on the light fixtures that I had turned off so there wasn't a power surge when the power did come back on. I turned the light on and did a happy dance. "Hell yeah!" I said hopping back in bed and shook Cale playfully. "I think this is the happiest I've seen ya." he joked and I rolled my eyes playfully before grabbing my phone.
y/n: i surived
y/n: let there be light and ac
Mel: yay !!!!
Gabe: is your ice cream cake ok?
I jumped off the bed and left a chuckling Cale behind, as I went to go check on my favorite dessert.
EJ: yeah is it ok?
Nate: you and your ice cream lol

Today was like any normal day. My hands are stiff, my knees unable to properly move, probably shouldn't have had that Chinese food last night but alas, here we are. When I have something like Chinese, Mexican food, or pizza, my body goes into overdrive, and well, it wants to stop working even more so than it already does. I'll wake up with night sweats which is exactly what happened this morning, and now I am walking like a penguin trying to make coffee in my kitchen as well as some toast.
“Bad morning?” my best friend/godsend/caregiver Becca smiled from her computer in the little breakfast nook. I nodded, holding onto the counter with whatever strength I had. “Fuck.” I rasped, realizing I didn't grab my coffee creamer, “Here.” Becca said getting up and bringing me my coffee creamer and giving me a hug. Today was a rough one. My rheumatoid arthritis hasn't been this bad in a while. I go through periods where I'm up and then others are down and today I was down. I’ll need a shit ton of Tylenol to get through. Maybe the full 6 before 4 pm today when I get off of work.
It is currently 7:30 in the morning and i have to get to work by 10, since i have a physical disability, i am allowed to work 10-4 every day - most days. Some days I work less and others I can work a full 8 hours. But today might be only 6 if i can manage. But wait no, today we were having this hockey team come in and visit kids that had terminal illness’. I am a social worker working with kids who are like me or similar, where we will never get better. Never. Go figure.
Becca helped me back to my room to help me get started on my morning routine since she could see I was having a day.
“Okay pretty girl, what pants and shirt today?” she asked, looking in my closet as I sat down on my bed. I bit my cheek before responding, “anything that looks good. I don’t really have the energy or ability to decide right now.” I breathed , realizing that the brain fog was kicking in. When that happens, I tend to get dizzy, the inability to concentrate and sound a bit drunk due to my words slurring.
—
As soon as I walked in, I noticed a bunch of people with microphones and cameras and I groaned internally as I walked down the hall. Eric noticed me as soon as I walked past him and a huge group of guys, the hockey team I believe.
"Eliza!” Eric called after me, and I continued to trudge towards my office and once I walked in I noticed a Trenta iced coffee waiting for me and I smiled, I could cry happy tears right now. My body always could use so much caffeine at one time. I never did not have enough energy. Eric walked in and gave me a sad smile behind me, “Eliza, you should have told me how bad it was today. You didn't need to come in.” he said looking at my cane that i was sporting. I waved him off, taking a big gulp of my coffee as I sat down.
“Thankyou ric, i appreciate it so much.” I murmured and rested my eyes for a second. The energy to get from the outpatient pavilion doors to my office seemed like nothing to a ‘healthy’ person but for me, it was like climbing up mount everest sometimes. Eric sat down across from me, speaking into the walkie he sported sometimes for events. “We should be able to start in 15 minutes. Our star speaker should be ready then.” he said, talking about me and I groaned out loud. Eric took notice and leaned forward on his knees, inspecting me.
“I'll be fine, even if I stumble over a few of my words and they think I'm drunk.” I sipped some more coffee, preparing myself for the day ahead. eric gave me a hearty laugh, knowing full well the extent of my comments.
—
“Now, I would like to introduce you to our very own warrior, miss Eliza James.” Eric announced looking at me at the side of the stage and I smiled, handing him my cane as he met me. He gave me an inquisitive look and I shook my head, smiling. I began to walk towards the podium, walking almost perfectly now that the 3 Tylenol I popped in the car ride over were kicking in.
I looked out over the crowd that was filled with hockey players, media, doctors, therapists, and so many of the warriors themselves.
I smiled before speaking, “good morning and welcome to the Denver Medical Center, Hillside outpatient pavilion for our little warriors. Who, like me, face an uphill battle day in and day out. We are incredibly grateful for your support, especially during these trying times.” I paused, taking a shaky breath.
“I first came here when I was 12, not understanding what my body was going through. I remember the first day I woke up with the inability to move. I could not get out of bed for a month after that, barely functioning to be able to eat and sleep well. I did not know why my body was giving up on me, I was angry, I was sad, I was confused. How could a little girl who did everything right- be dealt this card in life? I went through many weeks not understanding what was happening until I came here, after a long few days of testing and blood work. It was the day after I turned 12 that the incredibly kind and understanding Dr. Hart - who is here today - told me what I had. And told me that I was not alone, that I'd never be alone. And she was right, after many months of fighting through pain and virtually relearning how to walk every morning again, how to hold a spoon, a pen or how to properly sleep, I came to this hospital and met people just like me. I met people like Martha, Phillip, James, and Piper who are all here today. Who I am so very fortunate to work with every day.” I paused, smiling at them in the crowd. “Without the help that I received many years ago, I wouldn't be standing here today. I wouldn’t be who I am, doing what I love. Without the many years of physical, occupational, and talk therapy that took up my youth.” I paused taking in a breath. “And finally, many people ask us, “how do we do it?” “How are you so resilient?” and I always respond, what other choice do we have? What other options do we have? And every day with the little warriors in front of us, people witness that being in pain and living with it is possible and maybe just maybe, we won’t have to be so resilient. Thank you.” I finished smiling a grateful smile.
What I didn't notice was how moved some of the hockey players were, and the tears that brimmed their eyes over the unimaginable. Yeah, it's unimaginable until you wake up one day with it.
I walked back towards Eric, with a smile on my face as he clapped happily for me. “You did so well!” he grinned before walking past me to finish the opening and then we could get around to the hockey players meeting the patients. As soon as he was finished, I walked over to the kiddos and said good morning to them.
Martha, my favorite little Irish dancer, jumped up and gave me a big hug, “How are we doing today M?” I asked bending over a little bit to face her and be on her level. “It's okay! I can bend my fingers more today than yesterday and my hand’s aren’t as puffy.” the 7-year-old beamed. “And oh my god that's makar!!!” she said in a smaller voice, and i peered over to look to see who she was looking at and not realizing who was who. I smiled, looked back at Martha and grinned, “Wanna go color?” I asked and she nodded excitedly as her mom laughed. “Always down to color anytime, any day.” she mused and I giggled understanding her excitement. I took her hand and began to walk with her towards the play area as well as the ‘playroom’ that was used for music therapy and art therapy. Which I help facilitate and run. Five minutes later the players all shuffled in and began to walk toward different kids and began to hang out with them. I was sitting at the coloring table with Martha rubbing circles on my deformed knee. Let’s just say it was bumpy and had no cartilage left, so I was literally joint on bone.
“Hi. is this seat taken?” a young voice asked to the side of me, Martha eyed me. That nervous little chick. I shook my head, “no not at all.” I said with a small smile, taking in the hazel-eyed dark blonde-haired boy. He smiled and sat down in between Martha and I. “So what are you drawing?” the hockey player asked. Martha didn't say anything. “She's a bit shy, give her some time.” I said getting a bit closer to the guy and he nodded looking back at me.
“My name is Cale, what’s yours?” he asked after a few minutes of coloring. cale. “Mar-martha.” the young girl said and Cale smiled. “You have a pretty name, Martha.” Cale mused and Martha blushed. So did cale. “And you are Eliza right?” Cale asked, facing me a bit and I nodded.
“Hey Shelley, I'll be back. I need to go speak to Dr.hart for a few minutes.” I said to Martha's mom and she nodded. Okay, you can do this. No falling now. I pushed back the chair a bit to give myself some room, hoisting myself up and putting my weight on the table. Cale and Martha eyed me, making sure I was ok.
I stood up, flexing my knees a bit and sighing. “You ok Eliza?” Cale asked concerned and I looked down at him for a second before nodding, “Just another day with these old knees.” I half-joked before turning on my heel and walking towards the hallway. Dr. Hart looked up from her desk, before getting up and meeting me halfway. “Bad day?” she asked and I nodded. She nodded, walking over to her desk and grabbing a doctor’s script. “10 mg prednisone. Now.'' She said handing me a doctor's order and I thanked her before heading down to the pharmacy, not without letting a social worker know and having them tell Martha that if I could - I'd be back.
It was a few hours later as I was sitting at my desk, going through some paperwork before I heard a knock on my door. I looked up and saw Cale and I motioned for him to come in.
“Hey- you forgot this.” he said moving the cane closer to me and my eyes went wide. “Oh my gosh! I will never go anywhere without this thing.” I said standing up to grab it. “Thankyou.” I said smiling as I reached for it and he nodded, “Here sit down.” I motioned toward the two seats in front of my desk. “How was Martha? Did she come out of her shell?” I asked and he nodded, grinning. “She's funny and spunky for a 7-year-old. She chirps like a pro.” he said and I laughed. “Oh yeah- keeps you on your toes.” I said and he laughed.
“But that's good. Things like this-” I said referencing the event, “make things sometimes less stressful. Even though when you grow up and don’t have the opportunity to do things like this, as a kid it’s what you look forward to. It takes your mind away from everything, even just for a little bit.” I said rambling before catching myself. “Sorry, didn’t mean to talk that much.” I said with my cheeks going red. He gave a smile, one that I couldn’t read. “All good, I like hearing you talk.” he said before catching himself, “I mean, I like hearing what you have to say. It’s eye-opening and raw. Which I think the dads in the group needed to hear. That things could change one morning and have it not be the same.” he said honestly and I nodded. “It still doesn’t get better, even 11 years later- my dad still gets upset and how he can’t help me in the way he wants to or ‘protect’ me.” I confessed. “13 years? Wow.” Cable said dumbfounded. “Yep, I'm still so young and it's daunting and honestly depressing thinking about the rest of my life. I never thought I'd get to 18 let alone 21. But here I am at 23.” I added and he took that in like a sponge. “Well I'm glad you’re here, it seems as though you are making an impact. And mean so much to these people. Is it true you helped start this wing of the hospital?” he asked very curiously. I nodded, “Yep, there was a room in the hospital next store where we would meet 2 times a week. Here, we meet every day if possible or we have rotating kids that come for therapy and to simply be a kid with others who are going through the exact same thing.” Cale nodded in awe.
Like yeah, it's one thing to be passionate, but it's another to feel the joy come after putting in the time and effort to help kids just like you. It’s more than rewarding.
“You ok?” he asked after a moment of silence. “Ye-yeah, brain fog is bad today and I also got some steroids so I’m in a funk.” I laughed and he did too. “I hate to be forward- but could I possibly get your number? Take you to coffee or whatever you feel comfortable with?” Cale asked and I froze. I looked him in the eyes, not registering what he was saying. “Uh- wait what?” I asked before realizing what I had said. “Could I possibly get your number?” he asked, feeling nervous. “Um, hmmm. That's a first.'' I said, chuckling and closing my eyes as I leaned back in my chair. “Nobody has ever asked me for my number before.” I said, reopening my eyes. Cale was taken back by that. She was gorgeous, down to-earth, and friendly, how could somebody not like her? “Here.” I said handing him my card with my email and work cell number there. “I just want to let you know, there is a very real possibility that I will cancel like I could wake up one morning feeling fine- and then bam as soon as I’m heading out the door, I have to go back to sleep or stay in because of something. '' I said, hoping he’d understand.
“If you do, there will always be another day. I promise.” he smiled a genuine smile that made my bad knees crumble as I stood up. “That's a very sweet cale, but you might be thinking differently when the time comes.” I said hoping he’d understand and I wouldn’t have get my hopes up. “Again- they’ll be another day. Or if you feel comfortable, I could always bring food or coffee over and we can hang out that way. I just want you to feel comfortable.” he said, hoping she’d get the message that he wouldn’t leave or ignore her. I nodded, “thanks cale.” and smiled.
“Now, if you don't mind- I'm outta here for the day.” I said, grabbing my laptop bag and cane, and heading out the door. “Wait, do you want me to help you?” He asked me as he followed me out. I shook my head, “I might look like I’m fragile but I can do a lot by myself.'' I said confidently and he nodded sporting red cheeks. We came up to the pavilion doors, meeting some of the hockey players that were waiting around. As soon as Cale walked up, they noticed me and smiled.
“Thank you guys again for coming out today, I assure you the kiddos won’t stop talking about this for months. It made their year.” I said smiling and they nodded. “Of Course! We had a really good time, I believe we are coming back in a few weeks to do this again.” a tall blonde and beautiful man said. mental note: gabriel landeskog. I nodded, “We will see you guys then.” I said before walking out the electric sliding doors.
“Bye James! Please don’t fall!” Eric joked/yelled from the counter, as Becca pulled up. I opened the door, and waved back to Eric, chuckling a bit. “I’ll try my very best for you, Ric!” I mused before getting in the seat.
“You wouldn’t believe what just happened.” I said as I sat down in the car.
“Ouuu tell me!!!” Becca said as we pulled away. “A hockey player asked for my number.” I said shyly. “Wait!!!!” Becca said, looking over and screaming at me. “Oh my god oh my god!!!! This is the best news!!” Becca exclaimed, causing me to laugh.
“Uh huh, just wait until he sees how many issues I have and then he’ll start running for the hills.” I remarked and she gave me a frown. “No, don't think that. He talked to you after hearing what you had to say spoonie. (autoimmune nickname) Don’t doubt yourself. You don’t realize how much of an enigma you are sweetie.” she said, grabbing ahold of my hand.
“Yeah right.” I said starting to get even more defeated. My phone buzzed in my lap, and I looked down to see a text from an unknown number.
“Text me a time and place, and I'll be there. No rush, just let me know whenever :)” the text read.
“He even put on a smiley face!!” Becca pointed out making a turn at the light.
Maybe just maybe, cale was giving her the time of day, that she deserved so very much.

It was a month later, that the team and orginization were going to be highlighting and honoring the kiddos from the pavilion. It warmed my heart to see how much the team was getting out of these little kids. So when I got a call from Joe Sakic himself, I was floored. They personally wanted me to facilitate the evening in whatever fashion I wanted and they’d provide anything and everything for us.
Martha and I walked hand in hand into Ball Arena, it was two hours before puck drop and we were going to see the team before the game started. Well, they were- I was just there as moral support for Martha.
Martha beamed as we walked through the tunnels, rambling on about seeing Cale again. Her and cale had become thick of thieves the few times he had been around. Sometimes on his own without the team, to see Martha and ofcourse me. We had been talking for pretty much the whole month and even had made it to two dates outside of my apartment, the other two were in my sanctuary. Cale had been so sweet and understanding, but it was only a matter of time.
Martha noticed Cale from down the hall and pointed at him, and began to get even more excited.
Cale and a couple of the other players were playing soccer, getting into the zone for the game, and relaxing a bit. “Martha, he’s busy. We will see him in a bit, ok?” I said leaning down to Martha’s eyesight and she nodded with a bit of a pout. “Were gonna go meet Sakic ok?” I said and she nodded as we headed towards Joe Sakic’s office with the nine other kids that could make it tonight. We walked past the group of players, with me attempting to keep them all in line, making sure they got to the first destination. They were like any other kids, they were excited to see the players and had to be reigned in in order for them to not disturb the players. We walked towards the office and saw the king himself, waiting outside of his office talking to my manager- Eric who wouldn’t miss this for the world.
“Hi, guys!! How are you doing?” he asked the kids as we got closer. All ten of them began to shout, and go crazy. It was a sight to see. I watched from behind them, taking in their excitement, and laughed at the whole ordeal. This is why I got into social work, to see things like this happen. And Joe Sakic was taking it all in like a pro, kneeling down and commenting on their jerseys and hats, etc. He was also quite the jokester too. After a few minutes of watching from afar, I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Cale. I smiled widely, taking in his presence. “Hi Cale, how are you?” I asked turning around to give him my full attention. “I'm good, how are you today? Any surprises? I see you don’t have your cane.” he asked and I shook my head. “No, thankfully. It’s a good day.” I mused. “Well I am glad. You excited for the game?” he asked and I nodded, “This is actually my first in person game ever, so Martha promised me she’d show me the ropes. Her family being season ticket holder and what not.” I joked causing him to grin. Speak of the devil. “Cale!!!!!” Martha screamed jogging past the rest of the kids and Joe Sakic, and Cale opened his arms and kneeled to her height. Oh, how it would be lovely to kneel again.
Awhile later, the kids were running around or tempting to run around the locker room greeting all the players and having them sign their jerseys. I stood in the doorway leading into the hallway, feeling somewhat overwhelmed but kept telling myself to deal with it because who knows when this would ever happen again. I looked towards Martha who was in front of Nathan Mackinnon giving him pointers on how to not fall so much since the last game, apparently he kept falling. Nathan was enjoying this very much and played along with it, taking her notes and corrections very seriously. Even another player, Erik Johnson joined in with his so-called notes. Martha was a gem, everybody could tell. “You alright? Ever since we walked in here, you’ve been quiet.” Cale asked me as I stepped out into the hall for a brief moment. I was overwhelmed, overstimulated, and just wanted to find some coffee and a pretzel and call it an evening.
“Yeah-yeah I’m fine.” I said giving him a fake smile, which he didnt believe. “Im exhausted, I need to find some coffee and just chill. As much as I love all of this, it's overwhelming. Not gonna lie.” I confessed and he nodded. “Is there anything I can do?” cale asked, hoping he could ease some of the burden. “I’ll be fine, we will be heading to our seats shortly.” I said and he nodded. “Will I be able to see you tonight after the game?” he asked hopefully and I frowned. “Probably not Cale, I will be passed out as soon as the game is over. I know that’s not something you want to hear, but that’s me. I’m afraid.” I said and he shook his head, putting a hand on my arm. “How many times do I have to tell you, that whatever you can do is perfectly fine?” he said genuinely causing a chuckle to escape my lips. “Okay, ill text you though. No promises.” I said as the kids started to walk out.
“Pretzel time, Eliza!!!” Martha shouted causing Cale and I to laugh. “And coffee!” Shelley, Martha’s mom added and I pointed at her with a grin. “You know it!” I mused before turning back to cale. “Have a good game.” I said and he nodded and thanked me before heading back in the locker room.
“Have a good time, James!” I heard from behind me, seeing Bo Byram and I rolled my eyes laughing and waving him off.
“Now let’s see what all this hockey fuss is about, Martha.” I joked causing her to groan playfully and ramble about everything that had to do with hockey. It was time to make notes if I were to continue to see Cale.
What Eliza didn’t know was that she’d be seeing a lot more of Cale inside and outside of work in the coming months.

Eliza’s Pov:
I stared at my laptop, on this wonderful, freezing cold tuesday Feburary morning. It had been a month and a half now, of talking to Cale and growing our friednship. I defintly had a crush on him, but down played it so I wouldn't get hurt. He for sure did not like me. He'd leave eventually, right? Even as a friend.
Cale was picking me up from work today, and planned on taking me out to an early dinner, our 3rd out of the apartment date. The winter had given me a beating, and with Cale being gone most days- it was easy to be alone and not over overexert myself. and not bother him ofcourse.
"Hey are you okay?" Eric asked walking in after seeing mestaring blankly at my email. It was an email from Joe Sakic himself, asking if I wanted to come on board for the community outreach initative program for the Avalnche Organization.
"Um.. look at this." I said turning around my laptop, confused and at a loss for words.
[Dear Eliza James,
I am emailing you in hopes of having you become part of the Colorado Avalanche team. Upon our talks about the game that the wonderful kids were honored at, I was amazed at how much you have a niche for this. We would be honored to have you join our team as the Manager in charge of our Community Outreach Program. We have a wonderful team across the board, and we know you will fit in perfectly. Let us know what you think by March 1st.
We would look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Regards,
Joe Sakic. ]
"Oh shit, I was wondering when he was gonna send it." Eric said non chalantly, my eyeballs left my socket at his words. "Wait-wait what?" I asked in disbelief and he let out a chuckle, "The night of the game, he was talking to me and what I thought of the idea. I couldn't say no, they were so impressed by your ogranizing of the game that he thought you would make a perfect addition to the team. I say go for it, Liza." he said with a grin. I shook my head, "No, they'll think im too much to work with. Too much to deal with. What happens if I am out for a week? HUH? what then?" I asked rubbing my hands over my face. "I already gave them a run down, besides its illegal to fire somebody over a disability. I will personally remind them myselves after I come over there and take some heads off and maybe drop them off a lawsuit in the process." Eric said, making me laugh. he would do it.
My stomach was in knots, and I was still at a loss for words. "I don't know, I can't leave these kids. I can't leave Martha, my irish babe." I said sadly and he shook his head.
"But you'll reach even more people with your fighting spirit, love." he said grabbing ahold of my shaking hand. "Mmm, we will see. I have until the end of the month to decide." I said feeling my head spin. "Okay, whatever you say honey." he joked. "Besides I can't leave my favorite gay best friend, now can I?" I grinned at Eric who laughed. "I think I might be your only gay friend but anywho, lover boy is waiting at the desk for you." Eric said walking out.
I groaned grabbing my papers and my laptop and putting it in the bag, the email would have to wait.
I walked out into the hallway, saying goodbye to my other friend who is a physical therapist- Mike and my hall buddy. He waved me off as I began to make my way towards the front desk, where Cale was.
As I turned the corner, I saw Cale talking to the front desk ladies and I smiled as I walked up to him. The ladies noticed and smiled at me, and with that Cale turned around. His smile reaching ear to ear, as he did so. "Hi." I mused stopping in front of him, before turning to the front desk ladies. "Goodnight ladies, I will see you bright and early tomorrow." I grinned and they shook there heads, "We will see you at ten am sharp!" one of them joked and I laughed. "Bye now." I said, turning back to Cale who offered to take my bag and I obliged and handed it over to him. "Oh my god, whats in here?" He joked before turning to the ladies, "Thankyou for the tips, Ill be sure to use them. Goodnight!" He said grabbing ahold of my hand and walking out with me. I looked down at his hand and was shocked. No guy had ever held my hand before. Cale sensed my nerves and gave me a comforting smile.
Cale opened the passenger door for me, and waited until I was settled to shut the door and placed the bag behind my seat and jogging over to his side.
"That was quick." I mused and he looked over with a confused face, "You. Jogging. Fast." I said feeling small and then it clicked for him. "Yeah, normal things like that haunt me." I joked pulling my seat belt on as I felt the car turn on. "So how was your day?" he asked pulling out of the loading spot. I shrugged, "it was ok. draining but ok." I said cooly and he nodded. "How was yours? Did Nathan fall a lot today?" I grinned and he laughed. "I will say those notes that Martha gave, have held up. Can't forget EJ reminding him every day." Cale responded making me laugh. "Yes, cannot forget about the reenforncer EJ!"I added causing him to laugh as well. "Where are we going tonight?" I asked as we drove some more through the city.
"Stout Street Social downtown." He responded and I smiled, "You remembered how much I favor brew pub fare over anything anyday." I said taken back by that small little tidbit.
We were at my apartment while Becca was out with some of our friends, and I had given some options from doordash and saw that there was this brew pub and how much I enjoy brew pub food, but it was in passing as we were looking at a thai food place.
"Of course, Eliza. Im excited, we really didn't go to these places growing up so now that I live here -- I definetly enjoy the fare." he mused. "Well, this is all I grew up with. Not gonna lie. So I will give you many options." I joked as we were nearing the restaurant. We pulled into the small lot they had behind the hotel, and parked with Cale gracioulsy taking care of the fee.
We walked side by side, with my walking slower so I wouldn't slip on ice. "Oh my god, im sorry. I should have dropped you off." he said realizing what was going on. I waved him off, as he looped his arm within mine. "Thankyou." was all I could muster out on this cold evening.
We walked inside, and I took notice of the low key and chill atmopshere and knew I was going to enjoy the evening.
The hostess took our coats, and Cale put me in front of him as we walked back towards our table.
Partially out of manners and partially out of being in a spot he could grab her incase she fell down.
Near the back of the brew pub, we sat down and I looked around at the differnt cups and jugs on the wall. "woah." I said looking off into the distance and seeing a deer head. "Wouldn't be the wild west without a deer head." I murmured, which Cale caught and chuckled.
"So many good options." I thought looking down the list, going form appetiziers to main courses, dessert and the alochol list. Nope, no alcohol for me tonight.
"What are you getting?" he asked looking up from his menu. "Hmm, dont judge me though." I said shyly. "Never, I could never judge you Eliza." he said. That warmed my heart a tad bit. "Im getting the chicken tenders..." I trailed off staring at the table as he started to chuckle. I looked up and took in his demanor, "NO judgment here, that's what I got the first time I came here." He mused and I sighed, rubbing my hands under the table together. "You gotta have a go to meal, right? A safe option." he joked as the waitress came up to take our orders.
We ordered our dinner, as well as a veggie hummus platter and our drinks.
"Nate would be so proud of me right now." Cale said as the waitress walked away. "What do you mean?" I asked confused. I had never met the dude outside of the few times at work I've seen him, or the game. "Veggies are kind of his thing. he's a freaking health nut and will go off on people if they don't take care of themselves during the season." He explained and I grimaced. "Well that's shitty." I said without thinking, "I mean like, its your body your choice on what you do with it. nobody elses."I explained and Cale nodded. "I guess, but he means well." Cale said and I nodded, "Besides isn't your name being Kale enough?" I joked and he nodded. "Clearly not." He mused.
that still irked me though, what an ass.
The night continued with them cracking jokes, learning more about one another and was filled with Eliza's very sarcastic comments. She had to explain more than once, that she was not being mean. She didn't mean anything in a negetive way.
"Just ask Becc-" I froze as my knees cracked as I stood up. "Fuck." I mumbled and Cale's eyebrows crinkled trying to figure out was wrong. "Sorry, I am very stiff right now. I sat too long." I said groaning, taking slow steps out of the tables and into the walk way.
Cale stood behind me, pressing a small hand to my back.
"All good, take your time." he said as we neared there way to the coat check.
"Great people are staring." I mumbled fighting back tears. People always did this. They stared because I seemed like I was drunk, because of how unstable I was.
We got to the coatcheck, and I threw my coat half on with my scarf and walked out the door.
Cale threw his coat on, and went out after her. Despite her walking slowly, she was halfway down the street, about to turn the corner to the parking lot. He picked up a light jog to catch up to her.
"Eliza-" I cut him off, "I would like to go home now." I said exhausted and on the verge of tears. He nodded looping my arm in his and walking the rest of the way to his car.
Once I settled in, he shut my door and went to his side. I looked out the window and internally sighed. I hated being looked at like I was something out of place in society, or that I had something severely wrong with me.
I didn't say anything for a few minutes, and Cale respected my silence.
We made our way to my apartment building, the minutes winding down on this evening.
He pulled into parking garage and parked in a guest spot, and waited a few minutes to speak.
"They always look at me like im drunk." I confessed as he looked at me. "They've always looked at me like im a freak because I can't walk properly. But until they go through what I have gone through, they would be amazed at how I even have the ability to walk like I do." I said heatedly unbuckling my seat belt.
"And I am sorry you had to see everybody look at us, I am sorry. It's uncomfortable. I get it, if you dont want hang out with me anymore. Since, this is what you are in for." I sighed getting ready to hop out.
"Eliza, wait.” Cale said softly and I looked back at him with fear rising, searching his face for anything. Any inkling at what he might be thinking.
"First up, I am sorry that people stare at you. I am, I am sorry that you have had to deal with people staring at you for a long time. It is not right. And Secondly, I don't care. I get looked at all the time, maybe for different reasons but neverthless, I don't care. All I cared about was you in that moment. That's it, so hell with them. Thirdly, I want to continue to hang out with you. I want to continue being your friend. Especially if you come work with us-" I cut him off. "You knew about that?" I said in disbelief. He nodded, "Yeah Joe told me and everybody else that was there that he had offered you a position. Everybody including myself was excited about the potential oppurtunity to work with you. We saw how much passion you had with the kids at The Pavillionand we want that somehow, someway with us. Also, you are pretty hilarious if you ask us. Somebody's gotta come in hot with small remarks and just leave." He said grinning.
My heart sofetned and I nodded.
"I dont know cale, you're just saying that to be nice to me." I said trying not to buy his words.
He shook his head, "No, I am being genuine Eliza. I want you to be in our lives. I want you to be in my life." he said honestly. I bit my lip looking down, "I don't know Cale, im just like not used to being wanted that's all." I said holding back tears. "And having what I have, makes you isolated so im sorry for having a hard time believing you." I said feeling rather uncomfortable now. He nodded, doing something that I never thought any guy would do.
He grabbed ahold of my hand and gave me a smile, "I like you Eliza. I like you, all of you." he said and that broke my heart. I shook my head, "No. you barely know me, you like the idea of me, you like the idea of possibly 'fixing' me and you'll get bored and annoyed so easily, Cale. You'll see my limitations and see that you have no life with me. No friendship with me. I just know it." I barely got out before grabbing my bag from the back seat and getting out of the car.
He can't like me, there's no way in hell. I pressed the elevator with my key chain and it opened allowing for me to step inside and shut it quickly. I walked out into the hall as it got to the 8th floor ready to cry.
I opened my door to Becca eating some icecream, and as soon as she saw my face she dropped the spoon and came over.
She wrapped her arms around me, pulling me close.
"Oh no, E what happened?" She questioned, pulling back and inspecting me. I let out a sob, with her pulling me back in.
"I told him that he doesn't have a future with me B. I told him he will see my limitations and that he wouldn't want somebody like me." I said into her shoulder and she rubbed my back. "How about I turn on the shower, get your favorite pj's and some hot coco ready?" she questioned as I pulled away. I nodded, wiping my tears and made my way to my bedroom.
Becca's pov:
I watched as E slipped into the bathroom, before pulling out her phone and opening it to Cale's Contact.
I inputted his number into mine and pressed imessage.
[Becca: Hey this is Becca- Eliza's bff and roommate, I heard what happened. She is really torn up about it. Im sorry. Please don't hold this against her. Even if you guys dont talk anymore, please be nice to her if she takes the job.]
I pressed send, hoping he'd get it soon.
[Cale: Hey Becca and yeah I figured. I tried to tell her that what she has doesn't matter and I know that is hard to believe. But believe me, there is so much more to her than her physical strengths and weaknesses. and always, no matter what. Ill always go out of my way for her.]
Awe, he's adorable. He's a good seed.
[Becca: Good. I will try to get more out of her, but yeah, she's never had a guy like her before so this is all new territory for her. Again, Ill try to get her to talk to you. Ill see. shes currently destressing and Ill see how she is later on.]
[Cale: No matter who has and hasnt liked her, I do. I hope she accepts it.]
[Becca: Long shot but I will keep you updated. Again, thanks for getting her home safetly. Now go score a goal tomorrow ;)]
Cale has read and liked the message.
Eliza opened the door, and I turned around ready with icecream and water.
She walked towards me in somewhat of a faze, and I frowned at her apperance.
"Im okay, B. I promise." She said sitting beside me on the bar stool.
"So are you gonna take that job?" I asked curously and she shrugged. "I dont know, probably not." She said with a sad tone. "wait why? That looks like an amazing oppurtunity." I said confused. "I have phenominal health care B. I have to think about that, first off. Secondly, I cant or dont want to leave my kiddos. Martha would be so heart broken. Ive been with her for three years, shes literally my little soul sister at this point. and thirdly, I dont know if I can work around Cale, Espcially not after tonight. Or any of them. There is so many avaibable eyes to judge me. with healthcare, they understand and have understood from the minute I got Eric and the hospital to open the pavillion up." she explained and I nodded. "I love my job, I don't know if I want to leave just left." She added and I nodded wrapping my arm around her.
"Will you still come with me tomorrow?" she asked, "I wouldn't miss tomorrow for the world pretty girl." I responded pulling her in.
—
Eliza's POV:
I walked in with B to the denver medical center, today was the 10th day of the month, so I was due for my monthly infusion.
A day filled with reading, writing, sleeping and crying.
We sat down in the infusion center that held only one other person due to covid.
"Hi miss blue eyed girl, how are we feeling today?" Marcia, my favorite infusion nurse sweetly inquired.
I shrugged, "pain is a 4 today, but we will see how it goes." I said sighing and sitting back. She smiled softly, "is it me becca or does she always look on the negitive side of things? a 4 is amazing Eliza, that's improvement from last month." She beamed and I nodded holding my tongue as she adjusted all the vitals that she was going to be taking before hand.
Ten minutes later she put a anti histamine in the iv and I felt five minutes later, the immediate overwhelming sensation of exhaustion, feeling like I didn't have any control over my body, a numbness but tingly throughout my body and felt like I was out of my body.
I sighed laying back with Becca holding my hand and offering a comforting smile, "Keep kicking it. It'll be over in no time." she said and I nodded closing my eyes as the exhaustion became too strong to hold off.
[authors note: its so overwhelming, I hated that feeling. It's one I hope for you to never experience.]
Beccas POV:
She was out like a light. Marcia came up beside me and sighed, "even after all these years- it still gets her. so quickly." I nodded in agreemant. "yeah, im afraid it'll never get easier." I mused and she nodded walking away.
About an hour later, my phone buzzed alerting me with a text from Cale.
[Cale: How is she today? She hasn't responded to me.]
[Becca: She's been passed out for an hour. shes currently at the hospital for an infusion, every 10th of the month she has one. I acocmpany her every time.]
[Cale: wow, shes never menitioned it once to me. actually, shes never mentioned anything about her arthritis to me really.]
[Becca: Shes a closed off person, for a reason Cale. This is just one of the many realities of her arthritis. she doesnt let anybody know about the shit she goes through, the amount of doctor appointments that me or her parents take her to. the amount of tests, blood drawings, xrays/pet scans, and these infusions. these infusions kill her. these are one of the worst things she has had to do. and on top of that the daily shit. the nightly sweats that finally stopping, so she's not awoken up every morning with sweat down her back and her sheets soaked. you also have the daily stiffness and joints cracking. the flare up that consist nothing but flu like symptoms but without the vomiting. hows she on multiple medications a day PLUS a monthly infusion. this life isnt pretty, shes a fucking warrior.]
[Cale: christ.]
[Cale: i wish she'd open up to me a bit more, so she wouldn't have to carry all of this by herself.]
[Becca: you and me both. Ill let her know to check her phone, she's beginning to shake the tingles off.]
[Cale: okay good, thanks. tingles?]
[Becca: an un godly amount of allergy medication goes in her system and it knocks her out, makes her shake, she feels numb but has tingly sensations. its wicked scary the first time you see it. every once in a while, her teeth will chatter. im surprised she hasnt gotten chills yet tbh. usually she has them by now. like imagine watching her go through all of this, i cant even imagine going through it myself]
[Cale: could i possbily go with her next time? give you a break? I mean as long as it's okay with Eliza.]
[Becca: we shall see. Like I said, me and her family are the only one's who get to see this side of her. Ill mention it to her and see. Besides, if she hasn't opened up about anything, chances are she wouldn't want you to see her like this.]
[Cale: understandable. let me know, and let her know i had some flowers ordered for her and they will be dropped off to your apartment in a few hours.]
[Becca: so sweet cale, thankyou. she will be appreciative.]
I looked up from my phone to see Eliza beginning to wake up from her uncomfortable but blissful sleep.
"Goodmorning." I said in a playful voice and she smiled, yawning and strecthing.
"Miss sunshine waking up, how are you feeling? need one of us to fetch anything?" Marcia said walking back up and checking her vitals.
All good. "Hmmm, a venti cold brew with vanilla sweet cream sounds delectable." Eliza mused and I laughed looking at Marcia who clapped her hands together.
"Let me get Eric right on it!!" She said pulling out her phone and calling Eric.
"Eric hun, Eliza would LOVE a starbucks right now." Marcia said putting the phone on speaker.
"Oh for the love of christ, James better be grateful im getting up from my very importnant midday nap for this." Eric joked causing Eliza to laugh.
"Thankyou Eric, super thankful for ya." Eliza beamed.

Eliza's POV:
Four hours later we were back at home, around 2 'oclock. We had gone in at 7:45 and had spent the morning getting the oh so beautiful medicine that gives me life, infused in me. oh what fun.
"Oh lookey here, we have a surprise." Becca beamed walking in behind Eliza.
"Wait who are those for?" I asked confused, sitting down at the kitchen counter.
"Here." Becca said handing me the card. I opened it, giving her an eyebrow and saw the note.
[Thinking of you, heard that you had a infusion today and hope everything went well. Let me know how you feel when you can, Cale :)]
"Aweeee." becca sang out jumping up and down.
"You told him?" I asked a little annoyed.
"Eli-" I cut her off, "No, I didn't tell him for a reason. Now, he's really gonna look at me like im severly sick. That I am an issue. People can look at me and not realize I am sick because I have a silent disease Eliza. You may know and he may know, but just by looking at me I seem healthy but Im not and now this is really gonna push him a way." I said tears brimming my eyes as I rambled stressfully.
"Babes, he literally said to reach out when you can, that doesnt look like he's pushing you away." Becca said sympathetically and I shook my head.
"No, remember last time when I opened up to somebody that I thought was a friend? They dropped me within hours, so no." I sighed pushing myself off of the barstool and walking towards me room.
I shut my door, sitting down on my bed and laying down.
I curled into a fetus position and looked at the window overlooking denver.
God, how I wish I could be normal and not have to freak about somebody liking me. Cale is the first friend since I was dropped a year ago, and it terrifies me that he will leave too. That I will show him a part of me that he can never unsee and I don't want to lose him.
