“You didn’t call,” you say firmly.
John’s eyebrows rise. “You said you wanted to ‘disentangle.’”
“Which is why you have me pressed up against the bathroom door, right? Disentangling.”
“How was I supposed to know I was going to run into you tonight?” he asked, voice rasping in quiet effort. “And looking absolutely divine, at that.”
John’s cerulean eyes look hopeful; it hurts to look in them. It reminds you of when things were still so new and you two were excitable and obsessed. When you still had the keys to his house – you had given those back in an effort to distance yourself. It wasn’t an ending, necessarily, but a conscience effort to remember that there were consequences to your actions. Disentangle.
