– Yes, I am. No, I'm not. Yes, I am. No, I'm not. – Talk about confusing...this is a Butterfly-Moth (Callidula attenuata, Callidulidae). When it is perched on something, like a flower, its wings fold up giving the impression of a butterfly. The one featured is a day flier, but there are others in the family that fly at night. Habitat: Subtropical Mountainous area, dense brush and trees. Location: New Taipei, Taiwan by Wesley Oosthuizen
Tetragonus catamitus
...while it may look like a butterfly, T.catamitus is actually species of old world butterfly-moth native to India and Southeastern Asia. T.catamitus is a day flying moth and is often mistaken for a butterfly as it holds its wings up like a butterfly does. T.catamitus larvae are laid on the underside of ferns and when hatched they feed almost exclusively on said fern.
