He flees the truth. She brings him to the earth.

The fire crackled, spitting sparks into the cold night air. They were settled beside a small babbling stream, wrapped in the deep, comforting silence of the ancient woods. Her humming resonated with the Weave— a subtle vibration carrying a strange, unfamiliar solace that settled over him.

The dented iron pot filled slowly with conjured water, steaming and spiraling, scented faintly with pine and smoke.

Astarion sat wrapped in a simple linen shirt and blanket, dried streaks of mud still clinging stubbornly to his skin.

Ariana knelt behind him, soaking a coarse hand-woven cloth in the warm water.

Her touch was methodical, gentle— pressing the damp cloth along his pale shoulders and arms, washing away the grit of humiliation and travel with steady, patient strokes.
