Though she knew all of Dressrosa was in a haze of disbelief, Baby 5 couldn’t help but feel she’d had one of the more hectic, whirlwind few days. At least compared to the average citizen.
After all, over the past few days she’d gotten engaged for the ninth time, and this one actually managed to survive past the first day! She’d left the Doflamingo Family, at last forced to come to terms with the fact that she, in fact, was not valued by the people who had spent years claiming to care. She’d joined a new crew and even by proxy become allied with the Straw Hats.
Baby 5 was starting a new life, but while she’d been on cloud nine beside her beloved Sai for the past few days as everyone recovered, today she realized there was a matter from her past she needed to address if she planned to move forward.
Her heels clicked on the broken cobblestone street, the sound echoing in her ears as she approached the tall man smoking a cigarette. Some things certainly hadn’t changed. She hoped he wouldn’t catch fire.
“Cora-san,” she said, nervous. Yes, they were technically on the same side now, but the former executive had…not really been kind to her as a child. And no matter how clumsy he was or how many pranks she’d managed to pull on him, that didn’t change the fact that he had had been a stern, intimidating man with a silent glower. Perhaps he’d shown some kindness to Law, but it seemed he’d had none to spare her.
Remembering that fact made her hesitate for a moment. He’d never been kind. Not like Doffy had, as much as her former master’s benevolence had been self-serving. What made her thing Cora-san would be compassionate enough to answer the question that had long plagued her.
Courage wavering, her prepared speech vanished from her lips. Instead she clutched her hands together nervously and gave a deep, respectful bow. “I…it’s been a long time. How are you doing? Do you need anything?” She might have been free, but subservience was still her comfort zone. It was easier to obey than demand, even if it was something as simple as an answer.
