When it came to decorating her 1897 semi-detached Victorian in Tunbridge Wells, UK, Emma really nailed turning the 810 sq. ft. home into a gorgeous space.
She & husband Chris wanted a period home, so they could inject some character into it and she’s spent 20 months doing just that. Her favorite room is the living room/snug, b/c it’s dark and enveloping, and makes her feel cozy and safe. It’s lovely with the log burner on in the autumn and winter time.
A scalloped design was put around the top of the kitchen wall to give it some interest. It’s a good alternative to crown molding, especially if you’re renting.
Both she & Chris work from home. Emma strongly believes in buying secondhand, both from an environmental point of view and because old things just have more character. She buys most of their furniture from Facebook Marketplace.
She describes her style as “chaotic calm,” and painted the colors that calm her throughout the whole house. She’s suffered from depression and anxiety for most of her life, and her surroundings really impact on that.
Comfortable and relaxed is the vibe she’s been going for. The main bedroom is just beautiful- love the bed and wallpaper. Since it’s a Victorian, there probably wasn’t any closet space, so that’s a gorgeous and practical armoire.
