Camel skeleton in Bern
The last golden hour
Acquired one of my dream skulls, a camel! It has some flaws (it is SO greasy 🥲) but I'm super happy with it. I fixed the broken jaw but I'm leaving the cut skull cap (from necropsy?) as it is
Bactrian camel taxidermy by Simon Wilson (x)
Juvenile dromedary camel and juvenile alpaca :]
I guess August is camelid-themed! I got a set of skulls to fix (most of them have dried tissue all over them... yikes...) and this beauty was included! It's a juvenile dromedary camel, something I thought I would never be able to find. Especially since most people don't even know the difference between dromedary and bactrian camels and once it's a clean skull it's almost impossible to find out which one it was. I'm so in love with camelids and now I can finally add a new dream species to the collection! :D
The camelid skull collection so far, with two more skulls in maceration buckets (juvie llama and alpaca) and two more in the freezer (juvie and adult llama)
Species from left to right: juvenile alpaca, adult alpaca, adult llama, juvenile dromedary camel
Now I just need an adult dromedary camel, and an adult and juvenile domestic bactrian camel, and then I think I'd have to accept not being able to get the wild species (guanaco, vicuña, wild bactrian). Unless I can find someone with the right connections and paperwork, so maybe I won't give up yet
