No Iodine! We treated water with iodine tablets on our backpacking trip that previous summer. When we ran out of those we’d treat the water with actual bleach and let it sit for a manner of time before chugging that.

Mandi taught me to make envelopes with magazine pages. This is one I never sent.
Kathryn was such a manic pixie dream girl. We’d talk on the phone for hours after school and she’d send me the most encouraging notes. Wish I still had my original hotmail account. So many lost messages.
I spent one long weekend with her and her family up at Lakeside. Her parents were both Methodist ministers. Most of my memories of the trip revolved around giggling all night in twin beds in a little guest room. Blushing and kicking rocks around the little lakeside community.
