Camp Fortunate The site is now under water due to the building of the Clark Canyon Reservoir built between 1961 and 1964. This is near the head of the Beaverhead River; it is where the Corps of Discovery had to stash their canoes and walk over the continental divide. For the interesting story as to how Sacagawea was reconnected with a childhood friend as well as her brother here (in the course of a parley between Lewis & Clark and the Shoshone), please go here.
