Rock On at After Hours

Kamikiri on campus
Kamikiri is a Japanese performance art form that features silhouette images cut from paper based on requests from an audience. Kamikiri performers often create their works onstage while accompanied by shamisen music. The art of cutting paper as a stage show became popular in Japan during the 1800s, in vaudeville performance halls called "yose". Classical Kamikiri designs featured talismans, good luck charms and scenes from famous plays; contemporary designs feature landscapes, animals, comic scenes and a variety of characters. Some Kamikiri artists use sequential projections of paper silhouettes to perform a narrative story. Kamikiri artists have recently performed at US universities including Oberlin College, Purdue University and University of Notre Dame.
