Noemie and Sarah are so close as sisters that they have that “almost twins” relationship. They seem to read each other’s mind as they finish one another’s sentences. And they’re so honest with the camera. I’ve photographed these two in the studio multiple times but they were just girls at the time, modeling for me. This family photography session in Cambridge was such a start contrast to the previous studio pictures - by taking them outside, I was able to see them interact not only as sisters, but as ladies in their hometown. I was especially heartened by what came out of this particular session as I felt Noemie and Sarah revealed more of themselves to me than they had previously. Maybe it’s their age and maturity but I think it also speaks to who they are as people - they treasure the relationships close to them.
We were going to make photographs at Magazine Beach but the sunset crept up on us so we quickly chose to move our family photography session to Graffiti Alley in Cambridge. I can’t imagine how different these images would’ve looked on a natural landscape because these two really are city girls. But while they’re tough, they’re also super sensitive, especially to each other.
