also i dunno insert emotions about how easily matoba can ask this question vs. how taken aback natsume is...matoba is used to having a whole bevy of lackeys who know about youkai and don't see as well as he does so of course he's asking them this all the time, but to natsume this is very much an Inside Thought that he trained himself not to voice because it always makes people think he's a crazy liar. but here's this guy coming out with it just like that as though it's 1) a question natsume could possibly answer and 2) not steeped in years and years of emotional trauma...wow. some people are really just out here getting their reality affirmed on the regular as though it's not that big a deal. wild if true
