He squeezed her hand, marveling as always how lucky he was to have her in his life and loving the way her fingers feel entwined in his own.
“Well angel, a rabbit isn’t much for a companion, but I suppose if there’s no one else it’s better than nothing. I seem to recall a story about a moon princess though, and that’s a better company than a rabbit.” He’d heard the story in Mizuho once. “She had a whole entourage, so maybe there’s a city up there somewhere on the moon. Maybe there are cities on both moons.”
He glanced up toward the pair of them, bright and silver in the cold night air. It had taken a little getting used to, seeing a pair of moons after the worlds had been reunited.On a night like this one though, with no clouds and crisp, clear air, they bathed the whole area in silver radiance.
“It would be lonely, to exist somewhere by themselves,” he agreed. Colette’s hand was warm in his own, and he couldn’t help tugging her just a small bit closer so he could lean down to press a brief kiss to the top of her head. “It was lonely. You were lonely too, weren’t you?” Being the Chosen was a lonely existence, but for her it must have been worse, because they had all expected her to sacrifice herself for the world. She had told him a little bit about her childhood life, the expectations she had grown up with, and he admired her strength.
“Thank you for reaching out a hand to me” he murmured. “Whenever you’re lonely, come find me, ok? You were there for me when I needed you, let me return the favor.”
