“I wish it were that easy, Bex. It’s more complicated than you think.” 

Nova threw her phone on her bed, running a hand through her hair in pure frustration. She was only home in District 12 for a few months out of the year since she began medical school in District 2, where she met the most infuriating, yet handsome man. While at home, she’d talk to him constantly -- witty and sarcastic comments flying back and forth between the two Districts. 

But this one question he asked made Nova’s temper uncontrollable for god knows what reason -- something along the lines of “does your family know about me?” 

“I’m in love with him.”

❝ All the time. ❞ He says lightly, as if a matter he’s way used to dealing with. Finnick’s bright green eyes move up at the girl, however, concerned about whether she is dealing with them as well. Neither her nor Noah or anyone else should ever feel like that; or go through any of the things that led him and other rebels to feel the same way. His expression remains calm and soft, understanding even as he reassures her.

“Oh.” she pauses, stepping over to watch him prep the meat for a few moments. “Well, I can’t help with seafood, but… I did bring something over. You just can’t tell my dad.”

Bex disappears to grab something out of her bag, before setting it down on the counter, where Finnick could see. They were just small cookies, fresh from the Mellark bakery that her father still ran on the occasional weekend. “They’re Noah’s favorite, so I figured. But don’t worry, I didn’t take them from the display case–I took them from the back and grabbed the leftovers from the day before.” she grins.

❝ ——Oh. Don’t worry, I’ll keep the secret. ❞  A mellow laugh escaped his mouth as he caught sight of the bag of cookies. He knew well his son, and was well aware of how much he liked sweets. There was no way he wouldn’t know, Finnick  himself was very much into sweets to the point Annie had to stop him from eating whatever mail arrived from Peeta and Katniss within the very same day. That was long ago, though, when their children were small toddlers that hardly spoke at all. It was funny, and nostalgic, seeing them as all grown ups.  ❝ You can’t blame him, can you? Your dad’s cookies are the best. Everything he bakes is the best, I swear. But I’m sure he wouldn’t mind you brought some. There’s a small case of cookies your grandmother made, those are great as well. You can take some if you want to, dinner won’t be ready until a few hours from now. ❞

"Finnick?" Bex asks when she comes downstairs from searching for his son. "Have you seen Noah? He said he'd be here." ((HAVE THIS
