Oh, that sound of wheels... That must be her food!. Oh it was strange to ask food from outside, after all she was a princess and not only she has a team that prepared her food, but she knew how to cook herself!

[ of course, the ‘ food ’ truck's tire decided to pop just AFTER the crew went home for the day. o' his hubris ; that's what he gets for driving through that construction zone, but Cesare would be damned if he was gonna wait in that bumper - to - bumper.

regardless, he's taken strides with his fiery temper. he's been on top of the world since regaining his mortality --! even if he can no longer jump down the stairs ; he takes the hand - rail like some kind of geriatric dork and patters down to inspect the damage.

he knows how to change a tire, of course. this is ‘ no problemo! ’ there's a spare in the -- ]

“ Shiiit ... Papa's up shit creek without a paddle … ” [ not to mention it's a FREEZING sixty degrees outside ( to someone unused to feeling the temperature. ) hands stuffed in coat pockets, he considers pulling out his phone and calling someone to help ... nahhh, maybe he could ride the rim for another few miles? ]

well…if first impressions were anything to go off of, the one he was getting certainly didn’t classify anywhere close to ‘shady’ or ‘suspicious.’

when it came to places that served food, being considered shady was usually a pretty immediate turnoff for him, but for once he’d been kind of expecting the place to look like a crackhouse shithole. charming blue decorations, clean windows and a few benches near the front window—a...bakery? or maybe an ice cream parlor? the quick glance he took at the signage wasn’t fully conclusive, but he was leaning towards ice cream. either way, while it wasn’t as perfectly sterile clean as any ritzy, overpriced joint uptown, it had the well loved charm of the kind of mom and pop’s he used to get a scoop from when the weather got hot and his hoarded pocket change could afford it. of course, first looks could be deceiving—for all he knew this was some kind of money laundering front or the type of place that paid much more care to appearances than food standards—but with how odd everything about this delivery was, he was thrown off by the first thing about it that appeared normal. a quick glance at the piece of paper he’d written the address and directions on confirmed that this was supposedly the place he’d been told to drop the box off at.

already two hours on the bus and an annoying amount of walking while hauling around the heavy box deep, steve wasn’t about to turn around and throw up his hands like a wuss just because the drop off point didn’t immediately match the seedy vibes of its dweller. so long as it meant the guy got his box of whatever and steve got his money, he couldn’t care less what the place looked like. as he’d been quite vehemently instructed to do, he did not go through the front door but instead snaked around the building to the back. with his hands occupied with the box, he had to knock by way of giving the door a few kicks to the bottom, taking a couple steps back just to be safe—if it opened outward instead of inward he wasn’t eager to find out via a painful faceful of metal. and now all he could do was wait…hopefully they didn't take their sweet fucking time.

it'd been a normal day thus far. the weather was fine, the sun radiating a pleasant heat, the birds singing as they soared through the sky. cream of course, wanting to take advantage of the good day they were having, offered to go out and fetch her mother some groceries.

but oh, what was this? a store that wasn't here before? the community was so tightly knit, if there was a new store nearby, then surely they'd have heard about it. cheese was the one who pointed it out to the young rabbit in the first place, head lifting, brown eyes widening once cream realised just what it was. an ice cream place! wait, was this the one that her friend tails had mentioned? she'd been wanting to check this out!

should she perhaps be more focused on the task at hand, collecting the ingredients her mother had asked her to get? perhaps. but damn, childhood curiosity was a powerful driving force indeed.

ㅤWhere the hell was this bus taking him ?

ㅤThis was why he hated public transport. It was cheap, sure, but it was agonisingly slow, went in weird directions, and you had to sit near the most obnoxious people imaginable — playing videos without headphones, chattering like birds.

ㅤWorst of all, he'd missed out on his coffee this morning, too busy with work and dropping the goddamn truck off for repairs, and he hadn't had the chance to stop for a cigarette. Fuck, could today get any worse ?

ㅤHe decided to get off at whichever stop was next, to nurse his headache somewhere quieter, maybe call someone to drive him home. Hmm, Ted would probably swear at him the whole way back, but he'd still do it …

ㅤThe stop he finally jumped off at was in the middle of nowhere, the only place of note a café of some kind. Probably sold tooth-rotting treats, with a bright, cutesy façade like that. If not, they needed to redecorate.

ㅤA café in the middle of nowhere … Why did that sound familiar ?

ㅤOh. Right. Steve went somewhere like that not too long ago. A parlor run by a couple of weird short people, if he remembered correctly. He wasn't sure. Steve says a lot of things, so he's lucky if Captain remembers half of it.

ㅤUgh. At least they'd probably have coffee, right ?

ㅤTrying not to look as irritated as he felt, he went up to the little parlor, letting himself in. The place was so deserted that he second-guessed himself, wondering for a split second if he'd missed a 'closed' sign. He didn't remember Steve mentioning that it was a ghost town. Noise from deeper inside, however, at least confirmed that someone was here.
