A Brother || caninhisstead

Long had he been away from home. So long, he had forgotten the scent of water and grass on the breeze. So long, he could barely remember the way his little brother laughed. Atop his great, dark steed, he rode up through the plains. Metal, armor, his shield, and his sword clanked as he rode, making quite the racket.

Horse hooves splashed through the water of the tiny tributaries of the Anduin, soaking the ends of his cloak and trousers.

But it mattered not, not in this moment. No, for now he had seen a sight his heart had ached for. The great white city of Minas Tirith was bright and gleaming for the lost son of Gondor. Welcoming him home with open arms. But then he stopped his horse short. A ten minute ride would be all it took to take him home. Back to kindness. Back to warmth. Back to Faramir.

And yet, he could not bring himself to move any further. So close... He almost could taste the fresh baked bread of the corner bakery. Minas Tirith, and her people that he loved, awaited him. Something kept him back, something kept his heels from spurring the horse on.

Then, he heard a sound. Something like his own movements,  but he was not moving at all. Confused, the soldier looked about. And his eyes set on a sight that was almost enough to make them wet with tears.

His voice soft and almost breaking, he whispered to a figure "Faramir..."

Different kind of royalities

Gondor was even huger than Kili had imagined the kingdom to be. Sure, he had heard and read about the place, but now that he was actually there, walking down the streets, he couldn't help but feel awe. It was nothing compared to Erebor which was a kingdom hacked into a mountain. This was more open spaced, there were more mixed races together and the noise. Would nearly put a dwarven party to a shame. Nearly. Yet he had to remind himself that this was no pleasure trip. In the end he had to go and talk to the King of Gondor about trade routes, but whenever he had free time, he would roam the streets and taverns, watch soldiers as they were training with interest. Who knew, maybe he would learn something from here.
