What is Terp Sauce and How is it Made?
Terp sauce may sound like some strange condiment dreamt up in a fever dream, but it’s a very real cannabis extract. Named as such for its high amounts of terpene and syrup-like consistency reminiscent of honey. Terpenes are what give cannabis flowers their distinctive aromas. Clever chemists can extract different aromas and flavors thanks to terp sauce’s liquid nature. Terp sauce is often concentrated into vape cartridges for easy consumption. Low-tech ways involve just putting a few chunks of cannabis extract (either wax, diamonds or shatter) into a dabbing rig alongside the terp sauce.
What is Terp Sauce?
Terp Sauce is a cannabis extract that is concentrated with tons of terpenes. Terpenes are an aromatic oil that gives cannabis its distinctive aroma. The technical term for terp sauce is “high terpene full-spectrum extract” (HTFSEs). Terpenes aren’t just there to act as a way to make your cannabis smell nice. They are directly tied to the potency of your extract. The “relaxing” effect of cannabis is thanks to the presence of terpenes. Terp sauce is a liquid and gets consumed via vaping or dabbing.
There are several kinds of terp sauce grades out in the market. It can be combined with CBD and THC extracts to create cannabis wax. Terp sauce’s aromatic properties make the experience of ingesting cannabis a much more pleasant experience.
How Terp Sauce Is Made
Terp sauce is a very complicated process that is best left to professionals. That being said, it’s still a good idea to know how it’s made. In the same way that cannabinoids are extracted from cannabis when making shatter and wax, terpenes can also be harvested from cannabis in the same way. By using solvents such as carbon dioxide or butane, the terpenes are separated from the plant, resulting in the runny “terp sauce” by the end. Separating terpenes from cannabinoids can help you control the ratio of terpenes to cannabis extract that you like. After that initial process, you are left with a cloudy “half-product” that most people call terp sauce and which is actually the precursor to it. The last stage is “winterization” which involves freezing the product and separating the wax from the oil even further, ending up with a nice translucent finished high-quality product.
The Difference Between Resin and Terp Sauce
Terp Sauce is often confused with cannabis resin since both of them are high-terpene full-spectrum cannabis extracts.
To differentiate them, live resin is waxy as opposed to runny. This is because the plant is frozen before extraction as opposed to being dried out and cured. Live resin is broader thanks to this process but results in a waxier runoff with similar levels of cannabinoids.
Live resin is also high in terpenes, but unlike terp sauce, live resin still includes a high amount of THC. Terp sauce also contains significant levels of THC and can be added to existing cannabis extracts and enhance them. If you’re not a stickler for controlling your THC levels in what you ingest, live resin’s for you. Otherwise, terp sauce is a great way to control how much terpene-to-cannabinoid ratio you have in your dabs.
Conclusion
Terp sauce is a great way to mix up your cannabis consumption experience! If you’re looking to spice up the way you dab or vape, terp sauce is the best way to do it. The customizability and simplicity of use make it a great option for any cannabis enthusiast.
