okay just speed-ran all the men's skating, is it just me, or did they just give away points to Nathan Chen?? Like his jumps were incredible no doubt, but the overall routine was kinda flat compared to the others? Very little charisma/flow/rhythm? I've watched it three times now
Oh, I definitely agree with that. I've watched it twice now, and both times I was actually quite surprised how bland it felt. Like he just went there, did his assignment, and then left the ice to get his absurd scores.
Jumps were always Nathan's strongest point, while he quite lacks in the components department (no matter what the judges would like us to believe). His transitions (especially those!), skating skills and overall composition certainly aren't the best out there. And this time it felt (at least for me) like he didn't interpret the music at all and his performance was quite lukewarm. I didn't even pay attention to his step sequence. And SS are always my favourite part in any program!
However, he beat with that the last world record (Yuzuru's) by more than two points, and his scores for the components are insane (47.99! How?!). I don't even want to think what kind of scores he's going to get after his free program tomorrow :')
...It feels like it's enough for him to just show up and give us nothing but jumps, and judges will award him with another world record anyways.
