That morning I was in Châtillon, a picturesque town set in a beautiful sun-drenched gorge and overhung by spectacular mountains as this photo shows. Although Châtillon has had a great deal of building work over the last few decades, it still preserves a group of houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. Not only that, but there are numerous examples of medieval architecture that stand out on the Châtillon landscape: • three castles (Castello Gamba, Castello di Ussel, and Castello Passerin d'Entrèves), • two tours (Tour de Conoz and Tour Decré d'Émarèse) • as well as a Roman arch bridge (Pons Marmoreus).
