#OnThisDay in @chicagocubs history ▸ George “Piano Legs” Gore sets the @mlb record for most stolen bases in a single game at 7. Batting second on this Saturday in June, the left-handed-swinging Gore reached on either an error or a fielder’s choice in the first-inning, stole second, scoring on a Cap Anson double. Gore went on to record base hits in the second, fourth, and sixth innings—subsequently stealing bases and scoring each time. Those steals helped the White Stockings build a six-run lead through six innings, before going on to a 12–8 win over the visiting Providence Grays.
