“Check down here, I’ll head up stairs.” The words leave his mouth as brown hues glance over at Nicholas before he adjusts his backpack on his shoulder and begins making his way up the staircase. It’s the first time since the whole INCIDENT that him and Nicholas are out scavenging with one another. He assured Deanna that it was fine, that Nicholas really was trying to change, and that in order for him to really accomplish that, it needed to be just him and Glenn out on the supply run.
The first two rooms he checks don’t have much, just bits and pieces. ( junk really. ) But the third room he hits, a wide smile creases his lips as brown hues land on the small art studio. Teeth dig into his lower lip as hues scan the room. He truly wishes he could pack up this entire room and deliver it to Jessie. ( he can’t help but imagine blindfolding the girl and leading her into this room —the smile she’d probably have on her face is one that would make glenn melt away. )
He hears Nicholas calling out to him, saying that he’s ready to leave, and Glenn quickly calls back, telling the other FIVE MINUTES, and then he’ll be down and ready to go. He needs to think fast so the two of them can get back to Alexandria before night falls. Whatever he wants to take back, it has to ft in his backpack, and it can’t be extremely heavy. ( glenn’s learned that the hard way. ) He moves towards the wooden table, dust covering the brushes and dried out paint. His hand reaches for the mason jar filled with MUGGY WATER, he turns it around a few times, intensely looking at it. Really trying to think whether or not Jessie would need or want this.
A content smile plays across Glenn’s lips as eyes gaze out of the car window. He’s holding onto his backpack rather tightly, not wanting the contents he’s tucked away inside to break. All he’s thinking about is the look that’s going to appear on Jessie’s face when he shows up on her doorstep with the belongings inside his backpack. It took him some time to really decide what to take, and what to leave behind. But they could always come back, they still had other houses to rummage through, so if Jessie needed anything else, he’d know for next time.
Once the gates of Alexandria open and the truck is inside, there’s no stopping Glenn from opening the door to the truck and shutting it behind him. He’s not even going to follow Nicholas towards the supply room and help Denise sort everything out. He needs to get these items to Jessie before lights go out. He makes his way down the streets of Alexandria, brown hues focused on the house just three houses down from where he’s currently at.
He feels a lump form in the CENTER OF HIS THROAT as he makes his way up the steps of the Anderson’s. There’s no denying how fast his heart is racing, and he’s going to blame the heat for the sweat rolling down the sides of his neck. He comes to a halt at the front door, his arm extends forwards as it knocks against the wooden door a few times before he’s standing back, and waiting patiently.
