“July is traditional the time when massive shoals of sardines migrate northwards along South Africa’s East coast. The warm south flowing Agulhas current is pushed offshore, allowing a tongue of cold water to lick up the eastern flank of the continent. Traveling with the cold water are not just sardines, but also hordes of hungry predators. Common dolphins, five species of sharks, Bryde’s whales and Cape Gannets are all in hot pursuit of this silvery bounty.”
