The first org I worked with out here must have spoiled me because their gender politics were good, I didn’t realize they set the bar so high until I started trying to fuck with other orgs out here and they misgender me without taking responsibility for doing so. I…. Please don’t ask people to put any of themselves on the line for your cause if you can’t do something as simple as getting their pronouns right or CORRECTING YOURSELF when you do fuck up. It shows a fucking profound disrespect for people’s identity. I use to be conflicted about this. I still am, but being in the Bay, surrounded by so much lgbt+ community, there’s not only no fucking excuse for it, most of the people in most of the organizations out here are part of the community because we’re the largest marginalized group out here, so no, I don’t accept that it’s “hard” for you to look at someone and not make assumptions about their gender. It means you’ve done little to no work around gender politics and just accept the marginalization of others you’re supposedly standing in solidarity with only as far as it advances your causes. It means to me that you just want warm bodies as cannon fodder for your cause, and if that’s the case this isn’t an organization that I want to be a part of cuz you’re just mimicking capitalism at a decelerated rate and I’m good on that homie.
