2 D.C. Bars Where Pats, 'Hawks Fans Can Catch the Big Game

OK, like most Americans I’m sure you’ve about had it with Deflategate. Me too. Who knew what and when, and most importantly, who ordered it?

It may not look too good for the New England Patriots as they head into Super Bowl XLIX against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks (given they were busted for Spygate back in 2007; how many ways can a team cheat? And through how many gates?), but as they say, you can’t cry over spilled milk … you can only be fined and lose draft picks. And like or not, the Patriots are in the Super Bowl.

And Capitol Lounge in Capitol Hill, a proud Patriots bar, is responding to Deflategate in its own way on the big day: by deflating kegs in the team’s honor. From 5:30 p.m. until kickoff, the Cap Lounge will offer free Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Samuel Adams Cold Snap and Bud Light drafts with clam chowder for fans who show off some Pats gear.

There will also be a special Patriots menu, serving up the likes of Gronk’s Nachos, Wicked Wings, Beli-chicken Tenders and Foxboro Fries. Whatever you think about this team, Brady’s whining, Gronk, their coach, or even the scandals that seem to ensnare them now and again, the Patriots consistently do one thing: win. If not Super Bowls, then games.

For all of the above, the Patriots draw a lot of love and hate, so if you wanna do the former, make your way to the Cap Lounge on February 1st. If you wanna do the latter, I got something for you a little further down the post.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the bar figures to be packed, so you may want to get there early. The doors open at 10 a.m. Capitol Lounge is a great neighborhood bar you should check out sometime, Super Bowl or not.

On the other side of the coin, there’s a Seattle Seahawks bar in the District too, Acre 121 in Columbia Heights. Like the Cap Lounge, it’s celebrating the big day its own way.

Acre 121 bills itself as “DC’s Premier Seattle Fan Bar,” and taking a look at this colorful Super Bowl party flyer, who could argue?

The pregame party kicks off at 3 p.m. And really, all you have to do is look at that flyer. There’ll be a pregame raffle featuring authentic Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman jerseys as prizes, the establishment’s Hawk-Tails Drink and Special Football Tailgate Menus (which, to be honest, don’t seem much like specials, price-wise), free Skittles shots at halftime, $5 Widmer Brothers bottles, $20 Widmer Brothers buckets, $25 bottomless New Belgium Blue Paddle Pilsner Lagers and $5 Batch No. 12 vodkas.

And for all you 12th men out there, yes, there will even be special packs of blue and green Seattle Mix Skittles on hand, as well as Hawks-themed Mardi Gras beads. Again, I’m assuming getting there early would be a wise move.

Like the Patriots, the Seahawks get on people’s nerves too with their own brand of arrogance. I’m hoping the game ends in a tie.

Both bars are located near Metrorail stops (Capitol Lounge: Capitol South, Blue/Orange/Silver Line; Acre 121: Columbia Heights, Green/Yellow Line). So, if you’re lacking a Super Bowl party to attend, you might want to hit one of these shindigs.
