It wasn’t an easy task to convince Coin to actually let them above ground for a few hours. Athena understands that she doesn’t have as much sway with the president as Katniss or even some of the other victors, but she has enough sway to get them an hour or two outside of the concrete walls of Thirteen. 

She offered him a smile.Going out would distract her from the fact that the others were off fighting without her. “I’ve heard that they’re supposed to be beautiful since we’re way out here.”

Katniss never really liked the cold, but then again it was better than heat. The heat reminded her of the fires in the arena and the bomb that exploded and took Primrose from her. Cold she could deal with so long as she bundled up and had Peeta nearby for extra warmth and comfort. It had become a tradition over the years for them to get as much done as possible in the morning and early afternoon so they could come home, make dinner together and sit in front of the fire and stay close until it was time to go to bed.

She took a deep breath of cool fall air and a hand moved to gently lay over her stomach when she made it to the front porch. This will be.... interesting, to say the least. When she felt the life stirring inside of her, it filled her with a panic as old as time, but she knew with Peeta she could handle it. They could handle anything together.

“I’m home!” she called, greeted by Buttercup at the door and the Girl on Fire instantly scooped up the golden animal, earning a content purr. She hoped Peeta hadn’t gotten into too much trouble while she went to the doctor today. “Peeta? You home?”

[Casually replies to that ask here wassup] His body begins to shake as he hears her speak, feeble hands reach towards the transparent wall between their sells. "Johanna?" His voice is weaker than before, more fearful. Peeta NEEDS her, he can't hang on alone. "It'll be okay. They'll come for us..." His voice sinks to a whisper. "They're probably on their way now."

His voice fades in and out; drowned by the pounding of her heart that rings in her ears.

Through the thin forcefield she can see him. Her eyes cross; he splits in two. Focus lost.

Somewhere in her she wants to believe him. She wants to feel the feeble comfort that help will come. But what will be left of them? Will they still be them?

"I hope you're right..."

Her words are hardly more than a croak. Vocal chords worn from the screams that emit from the torture. Slowly, achingly, her lips give the tiniest of upward curves.

Maybe. Maybe there is hope. She can see it in his eyes.

"Please, fight this. You have to fight it. You have to live."

Shocks.

Electricity fizzled thoughout her body.

Body wet she laid with eyes closed. She wanted it to end. She would never speak – never give away the rebels, but it was getting harder. Harder to survive. Harder to fight.

Strong. She was supposed to be strong and a fighter, yet all the wanted was the sweet calm of death. The ability to sleep forever.

But she couldn't let that darkness take over. No – she still had a battle to win. And that voice. It pierced through the sheer emptiness of life.

Fear was laced in it. Fear of loneliness. She couldn't leave him. He kept her going and she him. They needed each other.

"I won't lose me that easily..." she muttered, sleep taking over.
