Quick facts! -Nubian- These goats where developed in Great Britain when lop-eared bucks from Africa and India crossed with the British goats. Today, they’re used for both meat and dairy purposes :)

Wowza! It’s the final and Seventh Day of Caprine Week!

No, I didn’t draw a sheep, this is an Angora goat! :)

Quick Facts! -Angora-

These goats are utilized most in the fiber and meat industry, and make a lustrous yarn called mohair. (Cashmere is made by a different breed of goat! :D) They can have grey, white, and black coats. In Turkey, their place of origin, it’s common for Angoras to have darker wool.

You know the drill, it’s Day Three of Caprine Week!

Today’s goat is a LaMancha!

Quick Facts! -LaMancha-

These goats have a dominant pinna-reducing gene, which means the external part of their ears are significantly smaller. LaManchas can have two types of ears; gopher and elf. They’re thought to have been brought to Oregon by Spanish missionaries, although that remains unproven. LaManchas are mainly used for milk.

Today I went for the two breeds I have on my farm; Alpines and Boers! Personally, I like the Alpines more, but both are wonderful :)

Boer goats originate from South Africa, and are one of the most lucrative breeds for meat production. Both male and female goats can grow horns. Boers are known for being very docile.

Quick Facts! -Alpine-

These goats came from the Alps, no surprise there, and are highly sufficient in making rich milk. They’re more slender than Boers, along with upright ears. Alpines come in a wide variety of colors :D

Today’s goat is a Saanen ^^

Quick Facts! -Saanen-

These goats have Swiss origins, and are well known for being the world's best dairy goat breed. Saanens have abundant milk production, which correlates with their calm and friendly temperament.

Hello! Apologies for Caprine Week Day Five taking so long, today was a bit busy ^^;

Buuuuuuut, this is an African Pygmy goat! :D

Quick Facts! -Pygmy-

These little goats originate from Cameroon in West Africa, and are still common in the region today. Due to their docile nature and smaller size, Pygmies are known to make good house pets. They’re also popular for petting zoos and being used as natural lawn maintenance.

The goat of today is a Toggenburger :D

Quick Facts! -Toggenburg-

Toggens originated from Switzerland, and are known for being the oldest dairy goat breed. Through selective breeding, Toggs have kept their light brown and white markings.
