Homemade Turkey Box Lunch. Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop. Greenwood Village, Colorado. 3.1.2023.

NOTE TO SELF: One of the things I'm looking for in a sandwich is a little bit of each ingredient in each bite, but this sandwich failed in that regard. And no individual ingredient was good enough to stand alone. Also, you can't call this a "homemade" sandwich.

Currently the best meal I've had of two meals.

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, 10126 Carmenita Rd., Whittier, CA 90605

I first heard of Capriotti’s years ago and I wanted to try it, but there wasn’t one nearby. I finally found myself next to Capriotti’s when I paid a visit to the Menchie’s in Whittier. They have subs and salads, along with a new Capture 2 option (choose from ½ sub & salad, ½ sub & soup, soup & salad for $9.99). Capriotti’s is known for roasting their own turkeys and The Bobbie (with turkey, cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing – voted Greatest Sandwich in America). The sandwiches come in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large. They had several vegetarian options. You can add on a bag of chips or soda.

* Capastrami sub (pastrami, cole slaw, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing): I opted for ½ a sub – not sure if it was half a small size sub or not but it seemed like it. What a small sandwich. The roll was soft and fresh. The sandwich was very skimpy on fillings, especially pastrami. The pastrami was thin and quite salty but it was balanced by all the bread and the sweetness of the dressing. The slaw added some welcome crunch though it had too much dressing. It felt like there was too much bread.

* BBQ turkey salad (house roasted turkey, mixed greens, crispy cheddar onions, diced tomatoes, corn, black beans, BBQ sauce and chipotle ranch dressing). The house roasted turkey tastes fresher. It was the highlight of the salad. The BBQ sauce was too sweet. The romaine lettuce was chopped unevenly. Some pieces were very large. The salad was a decent size.

The location had a chain like feel with a long brick counter. Order and pay first. They’ll call you when your order is ready.
