HEADCANON : ' yearning '

yearning (n.) — there is something missing from my chest that i have not learned to live with, a dull ache of something taken from my sleep. i do not know what it is. i hope it returns to me.

Damien is a lonely man by choice; it’s not a smart move, but whenever you look at him, there’s this profound sense of solitude and isolation that’s been ingrained into him by his training over at the Bureau. But, on the off days that he does go out with people, he sees them and their lives as something taken from him. His status as a celebrity took away his privacy and his status as an Exemplar took away his trust—all Damien wants now is a white picket fence and a guy to call his husband. Not that that’s coming anytime soon.

Picture: Laura always asks before taking a picture, and always reminds her subject to “Smile!”  She got this one just before they left for central park.  She didn’t say so, but his camera-ready smile still eases her nerves just as well as it used to, and she had many nerves to ease that day.
