Captain Torkelson and Daimon Yurrel has to be endgame otherwise I'm gonna start showing up on the news (only up to episode 7 so far) + a rant about Torkelson below the line
Captain Torkelson so far just seems like an embodiment of starfleet ideals, without much characterisation other than his intense curiousity and dedication (Honestly just kinda wish this mans had more flaws, like he's just very dedicated and honest there's nothing wrong with him, in comparison to the many flawed characters around him he feels kinda like this Starfleet saviour, a return of 'proper values' to the station or whatever, except he's not even that strict, because he's pretty OK with all the off the books stuff going around, so yeah... he's rough to get a feel for-- Can't help but root for him tho, like he genuinely just wants the best for everyone, he feels almost completely selfless, which they COULD make a flaw, give me a guy whose selflessness is also self destructive and I'll love you forever and all that) As I write this though my understanding of him just trickles away a bit between each sentence, because I'm always going 'Hmmmm... where am I getting this from the text? Is it just vibes, how do I justify my opinions?' but tbh who gives a crap it's a fan-production of the show I watch, I wanna Yap, I am allowed bad opinions. Getting back into it-- I think the core of his character is that he wants the best for people, and hell yeah to him for that, and being able to read and respect what his crew values even though he doesn't necessarily understand it (this man drinks his respect women juice, but it's also just respect people juice, and I fr, deeply love him for that) He hasn't been cruel or unkind to literally anyone yet, except to punch up when he feels like it's appropriate (and it very much is appropriate, his higher ups are honestly horrible, Captain Buchanan shouldn't have the position he does and honestly neither should Admiral Thomas) -- his lack of flaws feels very Star Trek to me though, idealising captain underdogs feels like it would be a consistent thing in the fandom, It definitely feels sorta like that whenever I see interactions between Kirk and Admirals in TOS, because Kirk is usually (or always, I'm not sure) right about one thing or another, whilst the Admirals serve as some kind of barrier to Kirk and how he thinks a situation needs to be handled (which he's usually right about). Ideal men is also a thing with star trek, star trek is about looking towards a better future, so the protagonists are often positioned as role models,,, people as they should strive to be. Really, thinking about it there's nothing much wrong with that. I kinda just wish Torkelston was more willing to push against and disobey Captain Bouchanan, because he obviously doesn't believe Bouchanan is doing anything good for the station, Bouchanan doesn't follow regulation so why should Torkelston try to appease him (I just wanna see Bouchanan court-martialed OK? I hate this guy)
