What would Audrey do?
One of my all time style icons is British actress and humanitarian, Audrey Hepburn. Having played endless roles, from a young princess to a poor flower girl; she captivated everyone with her grace and beauty. I still remember seeing her in my all time favorite movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It left me in complete awe of her style, her grace, and her humor. Her portrayal of a character that every woman wanted to be and every man found irresistible, was inspiring! She was a grand mystery to everyone, as she changed her image from one day to the next. Since then, I have always asked myself, “What would Audrey do?”
I am about to go out to brunch, what should I wear? Should I wear a dress or pants? Should I put my hair up or wear a hat? What would Audrey do? The answer always tends to go towards simplicity, refined femininity and absolute beauty.
So I am going to review a couple beauty trends from Fashion Week, while asking, “What would Audrey do?”
Fall beauty trend #1: Eyeliner
All throughout the Prada and Jill Sander shows, you could not help but to notice the beautiful eye make-up coming down the runway. Lined eyes. Dark eyes. Winged eyes. Eyeliner was used to create so many different and captivating looks. So, can we (like the models at Prada and Jill Sander) wear eyeliner and if you do how much is too much? What would Audrey do? The answer is “simplicity” is key! Do not line the eye so heavily that you will be wiping off makeup for days and days. Keep it simple. A nice thin line to simply accentuate your lash line.
Let’s further inquire, which is better liquid liner or the old favorite pencil liner? What would Audrey do? Audrey being the classic girl she is, would of course choose the old favorite pencil liner. One of my favorites to use is Chanel Le Stylo Yeux in Marine. It’s a beautiful blue color that blends in nicely and does not look overly done ever.
Fall beauty trend #2: Bright Red Lips
Tom Ford, the master of the red bright lip, adorned all his beautiful model pouts with high beam red! Would Audrey wear bright red lipstick? The answer is keep it simple. Audrey preferred a muted pinkish/nude lip, however from time to time would be seen with a beautiful matte red lip. She did this with the simplicity of a very clean face, toned down eyes and pale cheeks. For her usual nude lip, I love Dior Rouge Nude Lip Blush in Trench. This color has a slight hint of pink in it, and looks fabulous on any skin tone.
Fall beauty trend # 3: Wild Untamed Hair
Rachel Zoe’s runways were packed with Safari braids. Unruly, untamed hair that was perfectly disheveled and perfectly beautiful. Is this hair proper for outside of the safari runways of Rachel Zoe’s imagination? What would Audrey do? If you know Audrey as well as I do, then you know the answer is NO to untamed hair. Audrey Hepburn was the queen of the perfect ponytail. Hair slicked back, hair pulled back hair always neat, clean and well groomed. So, if you want to follow in Audrey’s steps; get a hold of a great grooming aid and get a clean refined ponytail going! My favorite grooming aid of the moment, Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream. This wonderfully rich cream leaves your hair soft, shiny and every hair in perfect place.
So girls, as Audrey once stated, “ I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls.” Remember a great smile and self-confidence are the best accessories you can have. Other than those, keep everything else SIMPLE! That is what Audrey would do.
