Today, during my last break, I received heartbreaking news. A person that I have never met but consider a friend, lost a baby Echidna that has been in her care since this past October. This little puggle (which is what baby Echidnas are really called), tiny Niffler for all you Fantastic Beasts fans, is named Patty. He came to Caroline shortly after his mother was tragically killed by a car. A kind motorist stopped to see if the Echidna could be saved and discovered that she had a baby, who by some miracle was unharmed. Patty became a regular on Caroline's Instagram, we shared in the excitement when Patty's ears opened up at 80 days old, the anxiety when Patty had a possibly ingrown spine (yikes), watching videos of him digging around in the brown sugar looking sand made me so happy. Thanks to Instagram & #Caraandhercreatures people from all over the world have been able to share in Caroline's everyday adventures through pictures and information about the many different and interesting creatures she helps to rehabilitate as a licensed & vaccinated volunteer Bat Carer. Her quilting isn't so bad either. I have never met Caroline, I may never get the opportunity to meet her because she lives in Australia, but I believe in what she does, I have and will continue to donate money to the organization that she is part of because these Animal's lives matter. Honestly if I had the means I'd probably be doing the same thing, I'd have every stray cat, dog, bird, everything at my home, safe & taken care of. It'd be a zoo but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've been an animal lover my whole life and I can't begin to understand the feeling of loss that Caroline must be feeling right now. I just want you to know that you have friends in California and our hearts are broken too. You gave Patty a fighting chance & you educated people on a truly wondrous (yes this word totally applies to echidnas, they hatch from eggs for goodness sake!) creature. #Nifflertraining #Caraandhercreatures #BatsareNOTPETS #vaccinatedandlicensedcarer For more information and to donate, please visit AustralianBatClinic.com.au Follow @Nightingalequilts on Instagram to learn more.
