The Sacred City of Caral-Supe, Peru
While the pyramids of Egypt were still a distant dream, a sophisticated civilization was already thriving on the arid coast of Peru. Meet Caral (or Caral-Supe), the oldest known city in the Americas, dating back ~5,000 years around (3500–1800 BCE). No signs of warfare or weapons. Just music (bone flutes have been found) and monumental architecture that influenced Andean culture for millennia.
