Proshipping isn't grooming. Grooming is when someone strikes up a bond with the potential victim WITH THE INTENT to abuse them. Grooming *isn't* "Fanfic made me think that's how relationships should work, and it made me vulnerable." It's the lack of education about healthy relationships that makes people vulnerable (and education isn't fandom's job). Both grooming and abuse require an intent do do harm, and as long as no one is being forced to look at the nasty fanwork, those terms don't apply here. Posts like that yours make me look with suspicion on any anti who claims they were groomed with fanworks, cause I can't be sure they don't really mean *by* fanworks (into enjoying the nasty ship and having their innocence ruined or something). Don't claim something is grooming unless you can point to actual abuse done by the person who did said grooming.

The intent is only a small portion of the overall impact of anything that is done in this world.

A snake eats the eggs of a mother bird because its intent is to provide energy to its body to keep living. That’s noble—self-preservation. The impact, however, is that the mother bird will now grieve the loss of her clutch, or even more, that clutch now cannot grow their own families and be beautiful scenery for a photographer, whose capture of the bird will make him famous, and for him to use the funds of his fame to fortify ecosystems and make sure birds like the ones that were eaten are kept around to be beautiful and live their life!

Do you like beautiful birds? I personally like Birds of Paradise, and specifically Twelve-Wired birds, because the female have a pretty salmon color. Maybe you do like snakes, they are interesting to me, but they’re scary, I’m sorry. Nature can be wild and cruel, but humans have been able to work hard to fix the destruction of invasive species and preserve the endangered species.

The intent of being a proshipper is supposed to make fiction “guilt-free,” right? that anything that is made should not reflect upon the maker, right? That’s the intent. However, the impact is that these fictions are exposed to others. It hurts them and they do not feel as free as the proshippers do, seeing this content and reminding them of dark times. Or, even worse, people will purposefully find these creations to make life hell for others who are more vulnerable. There is still guilt to be gained. I’m sorry, it’s true, it happens, and happened to many of my friends. Antis want an internet experience they can enjoy, just like a proshipper, but that can’t happen with the way things are now.

Yes, many of these things include things that even proshippers can’t control even if they try really, really hard. Like algorithms that make no sense and show other people things they actually don’t want to see, simply because they talked about it in passing once. You can only block so many of what feels like the same person over and over and over and over again until you feel so tired that you want to give up, but the algorithm won’t stop showing you these people, and this content that harms you.

so when i was like in 5th grade tobi called himself madara or whatever and i remember getting so mad he wasnt obito like i ripped all the drawings i had of him and what not like i was in the fandom and everyone was pissed off cuz lie where did the name tobi come from so like 7 years later it was revealed he WAS obito and i was like OK literally havent been the same since also all my 12 yr old headcanons came true and i havent been the same since naruto ended
