a pair of cardinals has a nest in the yew bush right against my porch and a bluejay came and attacked them >:(

mr. and mrs. cardinal have both come back now at least

i don’t think the bluejay was able to do anything--they were both on the nest and chased it away together

i know we all got to eat, but back off you p.o.s. bluejay, those are MY cardinals

cardinal nest update: it’s finally warm enough to move my cacti and succulents out to the porch to get some honest-to-god sunlight, but the table is right next to the nest so i’m just sort of...sneaking them out one or two at a time

just now i showed up on the porch with two pots in my hands and realized Mrs. Cardinal was right there, staring at me suspiciously with her beady little eyes while i introduced STRANGE OBJECTS within six feet of her precious babies

it was very awkward but she stayed put

now Mr. Cardinal is over in a tree Watching Things

Cardinal family growth — you can see one baby is fledging - on the left here - with 2 still in the nest — mom & dad are both still tending them but I expect mom to go off and make a new nest soon :}

both momma & poppa cardinal have been back to feed the babies 💚🙏🏼💜

mother cardinal is still sitting right outside my back door in her nest on my porch - deep in the wisteria she remained mostly dry during yesterday’s storminess.
