Casually glancing at the job market for publishing

Lots of opportunities for trade non-fiction, but since I already took a job working in niche non-fiction I'm worried if I got another one in the same vein I'll only be shooting myself in the foot.

I need real trade fiction publishing experience. YA and genre preferred, but getting into fiction will be the first step into getting my career really on track. I'm worried if I stick with all of this non-fiction houses that are hiring eventually I will have all this experience in the wrong genre.

But then I also dislike the idea of not pushing myself to pursue more opportunities.

And NYC is bearing down on me faster than I want to admit.

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate that city but I'm 100% positive I will need to live there?

When I last saw my dad

he asked me if I was still interested in a job in the UN if I came back to Vienna. I have to decide soonish because his friend is retiring this fall. I said, yeah, sure as a part time thing, if he hears about anything I'm qualified for, why not. And that was that. I mean, I love the UN. I enjoyed working there. I always said I'd never want to do it full time because you're so isolated in that office building and the air condition is really bad for my skin and the cafeteria isn't all that great but I've found out now that office life is office life and in the UN they at least know how to crack a good joke on somebody's (or their own) nationalities.

So, anyway, I didn't think too much about it because I don't even know where I'm going to live come this fall. However, since then, out of a variety of reasons, I've written to my French professor, I've listened to Charles Aznavour, somebody posted something on Jacques Brel, Jean Dujardin is a tumblr constant and I've slowly slipped into a "I can't speak French anymore!"-panic*.

And it's more of a "What do I do first?"-panic. Because I'm currently studying for an exam on runes and I am awfully behind on code year and I mean to take some Arabic learning books to Sweden to at least learn the letters and I am going to Sweden mainly to get fluent in Swedish. There is no space in 2012 for Romance languages but it's the only thing with a foreseeable, calculable ROI.

You can slowly slip into panic, I just prove it.
