Nat x SickReader:
Summary: It’s Natashas birthday and you’ve arranged a party for her. Everything has to be perfect. But oh, what's this? Are you coming down with something?
You sniffled and sneezed for what felt like the 100th time that day. You knew in your heart that you were coming down with something since the moment you woke up that morning with a tickle at the back of your throat and a slight ache in all of your muscles. However today was not the day to be sick, today was much more important. Today, it was Natasha’s birthday.
Nat was currently out doing some last-minute clean-up after a small mission went slightly wrong. Everything was set and prepared to be ready for when she returned. Sighing as you finished wiping down the kitchen counter you allowed yourself to rest your head in your hands, sniffling to yourself.
“Rough day?” A soft voice came from behind instantly recognizable as Wanda’s.
“No, I just want everything to be perfect for Natasha.” You admitted, sniffling to keep your nose under control, however, it seemed to have other ideas as the growing tickle grew “Is everything rea- h...HEhktshoo! Sorry. Is everything ready?”
“Bless you, here.” Wanda used her powers to levitate a box of tissues towards you. Pouring two cups of coffee she held one out to you, “Everything's been taken care of stop worrying. But hey don’t overdo yourself though. Make sure you take care of that cold.”
“Thanks,” You swiped a few tissues from the box and accepted the drink, “Thanks for this as well, and I don’t have a cold, by the way, it's just allergies or something.”
“Sure.” She spoke in a sarcastic tone and winked before leaving the kitchen. You didn’t realize you were holding your breath until you sighed a deep long breath. Today was going to be a long day, however, it would be worth it.
3 hours had passed and it was almost time, you had been greeting guests as they entered for the last 10 minutes and your aching head had begun to turn, blurring your vision slightly but you pressed on forcing yourself to smile, turning on your heels you were shocked to see Wanda staring deeply at you. “I thought I told you to take it easy today.”
“I'm fine Wanda. Just forget about it, today's about Nat. Not me. Let's just make today about her, ok?” She could hear the desperation in your voice, unsure of what to say she just nodded and left you to it.
Fixing yourself a drink, you were unaware of the sudden cheer of noise in the room as the music increased in volume, you laid your head on the wooden bar. “Hitting the hard stuff already?” A voice chuckled, hugging you from behind. You knew that voice anywhere.
“Nat!” You stood up and hugged her properly. “Happy birthday baby.” You cooed, grabbing her by the hand and leading her towards the corner of the room to talk privately. “How was everything?”
“Forget that it was fine, but this,” She looked around signaling the party with her eyes, “Did you do this all by yourself, it's amazing.”
You began to speak but leaned away to cough lightly into your elbow, “Well, I had a little help from you know who.” You pointed at Tony who was currently doing the robot with Vision on the dancefloor. You both laughed as you watched in silence for a moment, as you plucked up the courage to ask her the burning question in your heart trying to stave off the prick building in your nose. “So.” You took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. “Do you want to dance?”
“You didn't need to ask.” She smirked and kissed your cheek, her face changed slightly and you couldn't quite read what she was thinking, “Are you alright?” She asked as you both made your way to the open floor.
“Never better,” You smiled, “Now may I?”You offered your hand out to her.
“Certainly.”
You and Nat danced for what felt like hours but you still had to quietly muffle coughs and quickly wipe your running nose on your sleeve when you thought she wasn't looking. Truth be told you felt awful. Your fever was making you dizzy and the dancing certainly wasn't helping but you pressed on, determined to have a wonderful night with Natasha. Looking deeply into her eyes you felt a wave of happiness rush over you, she leaned towards you but the tickle in your nose returned with vengeance and you pushed her away slightly “Nat I-…. eh'ttshoo!! H-hh…heh'eeshoo!! H..hnxxt.’ You sneezed uncontrollably pressing your wrist up to your nose only managing to stifle your third sneeze as it tore from your nose.
Your face flushed red with embarrassment as you began to stutter your apology, hiding your face from Natasha. “I am so so sorry! I... I don't know what came over me, I-“
You felt a cold hand cup your face, it felt amazing against your burning skin. “Bless you, Stop apologizing sweetie.” Her voice quietly whispered. “Now when were you going to tell me.”
“It's not that bad” You admitted, falling into her open arms as she held you close. “I wanted to make today about you. You do a lot for me and I just wanted to try and repay you.”
“You don't need to repay me anything.” She tucked a strand of fallen hair behind your ear, and pressed her cool palm to your forehead, “Now tell me truly, how do you feel?”
“I'm fine, I just need to grab a drink, and then I have to go make sure everything is going to plan. Then theres the- h..htitshoo!!”
“Bless you.” Nat cut you off from your ramblings and instructed you to take a seat by the bar. “Water please.” She spoke to the man behind the bar, “I’ll be back, don't go anywhere”
You rolled your eyes but obeyed, it's not like you could. You were barely holding yourself together as it was. You still had so much to do, you had arranged a surprise for later on and everything had to go perfectly. Grabbing a napkin you blew your nose lightly, the congestion shifting caused you to sneeze twice into your elbow.
“Bless you.” A different masculine voice blessed you this time and you looked up to see Tony accompanied by both Natasha and Wanda who just looked at you with sympathy and shook her head lightly. You knew what they were going to say even before they spoke. Standing up you gripped the sturdy bar for support, “Guys, please I swear Ib fide. Everythiggs got to be perfect!” Congestion was seeping into your now-hoarse voice and Natasha pulled you towards her, cradling you in her strong arms.
“That's enough.” Tonys' voice was firm. “We all know you’ve worked hard to make this party happen but this has to stop. Your health is important and you're going to rest, no arguing.”
“He’s right.” Wanda agreed, “I should’ve made you lie down sooner, you look terrible.”
She wasn’t wrong. Your skin was pale but was tinged red around your feverish cheeks. The hair sticking uncomfortably to your clammy forehead. Not to mention the fact you could barely stand on your own.
Tony whispered something into Natasha’s ear and she abruptly pulled away, leaving Tony to hold you steadily. Nat made her way to the microphone near where the DJ booth was. She made a quick speech, thanking everybody for the birthday wishes and the party. After finishing up, she made her way back to the three of you. “Come on.” She held out her arms to you but stopped when she saw your condition had worsened. She nodded to Tony and within moments you found yourself tightly embraced in her arms. “Let's get you to bed.”She whispered softly.
Minutes later you found yourself wrapped in a warm blanket, sat huddled on the couch. You had convinced Natasha to let you rest there instead of the bed. “Here,” Nat spoke as she approached you, damp cloth in hand. She gently laid it on your forehead and she cuddled down next to you. “I'm sorry I ruined your birthday.” You sniffled, feeling guilty for pulling her away from her own party.
“Don’t apologize for anything sweetheart. I'm right where I want to be, cuddling with you.” Her voice sounded genuine and her soft touch soothed your worries.
“Wait!” You suddenly remembered the time, gaining a burst of energy as you rushed to the big window which allowed you to view the whole of the city. You quickly drew the curtains and sat back down next to the very confused Nat. “Just wait.” You whispered
Moments later bright sparks of colorful embers filled the sky, the loud bang of fireworks filled the room. It was beautiful. You could wish for nothing more as Nat held you close, her eyes sparkling as she watched the fireworks in awe. “Did you do this?” She asked, pulling you closer towards her smile beaming.
“Happy birthday Natasha.”
