So, today, on his way home from school, Charlie (age 5) declared, “When I grow up, I know what I’m going to be, Mummy! I’m going to be a Firefighter.” I said, “Ok, that’s great! But, I thought you wanted to drive a Recycling truck? Why the change?” His reply, “Australia is on fire and I need to go and help them put it out! So, me and my friends are going to be firefighters. We’ll build a plane and fly there and put it all out for them!” This is a picture of him checking the map in the front of his dinosaur book when he got home to see exactly where Australia is, in relation to the UK, and figure out how long it might take him and his friends to fly the plane (which they’re also going to build) and get there!... There may be several flaws in his plan (not least him getting his wires crossed at one point, between the Australian bushfires and the fires in the Amazon Rainforest ...as he wants to try to save the Koalas and the Sloths under threat, as well as help the people!) but, you really do have to admire his spirit, genuine concern/empathy for others and his willingness to try to help, however he thinks he can! He’s a sensitive, caring soul, this one and I certainly wouldn’t change him!
