B A Z A A R // V I N T A G E . Before Liz ushered in her "New Era of Elegance" in 1992, the magazine already had a rich history of elegance. The 40s, 50s and very early 60s Bazaar was defined by three of fashions most cherished and beloved, Carmel Snow ( Iconic EIC from 1934-1958 ), Diana Vreeland ( 1936-1962 first as a columnist then Fashion Editor ) and photographic genius, Richard Avedon ( 1945-1962 ), together they created some of the most breathtaking and iconic fashion images of all time. From socialites to movie stars, Avedon always captured the mood of the time perfectly, creating images that will forever remain both timeless and elegant. Capturing everyone from his Muses Suzy Parker, Dovima ( she of the infamous "Dovima with Elephants" images ), Audrey and Jean, to Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Gloria Vanderbilt and many, many more, the images were always elegant, strong and chic ( often the subjects wore Couture. Givenghy, Dior, Balenciaga and Chanel, all by the original designers themselves ). The creative reign with the covers during these years was also astounding, incredibly artistic and unlike anything we see today. These three visionaries were so ahead of their time and have influenced many of today's great photographers, editors and stylists immensely! Here are some of my favourite images from this special time in the magazines incredible history. #harpers150years #harpersbazaar #richardavedon #dianavreeland #carmelsnow#audreyhepburn#elizabethtaylor#suzyparker#jeanshrimpton #dovima#chanel#balenciaga#dior#givenchy#vintage#fashionhistory#blogger #the_bearded_blogger_ #modelmondays#the_bearded_blogger_modelmondays
