The latest ep of Let's Learn Everything podcast goes deep into Spiders Georg. It's really funny, albeit makes me feel old given that they're talking about myths they believed as children and I was 36 when that post was made :-|
Facts they point out in this ep:
humans still eat 0 spiders a year on average if you use the mode or median as your average, as they are not affected by outliers
to bring the human average up to 3 spiders per year Spiders Georg would have to eat 59,000,000 spiders, actually
some places in the world do actually eat spiders anyway
did anyone actually check if his consumption was an input error?!
Anyway at the end Ella rewrites the post as a statistical teaching tool and i love it so much
"Average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actually just poor statistical interpretation. Median person eats zero spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in a cave and eats over 59 million spiders each day, is a statistical outlier, but his lived experience should be counted and the data represented differently"
