I've found that most books about ghost stories are written that way. I think the authors assume writing 'academically' gives more credibility to their folklore studies, which is fine and all, but they have to know 98% of their audience just wants to be scared. It's always disappointing and yet I keep buying them whenever I find them secondhand.
im glad i only checked it out bc i definitely would have been upset if id spent money on it
i was so excited to see that theres an entire chapter dedicated to ghost stories at various mcmenamins locations and now im not even looking forward to getting that far
i didnt even know someone could make a ghost story so Boring
