heres more actually , because i felt like writing it out right now, kinda? again under a cut so i dont spam you haha
Okay so this time im going to talk about black eyes evil white trenchcoat man
His name is actually onryo but I AM GOING TO GIVE HIM A DIFFERENT NAME SOON since onryo actually is a vengeful spirit in japanese folklore (can be seen in silent hill 4 - cynthia velasquez)
and i dont think the name fits him right now but lets call him that here so there wont be misunderstandings heh
So okay - who is that douchebag actually? Well for one thing i can say he definitely IS a douchebag. We could also call him the "personification" ( he is not a person actually, he is an ancient monster created from hate and grief taking human appearance)
of misfortune
He was created hundreds of years ago when the world was on its worst point and near to go down.
He doesnt have a constant form but in old tales he is told to be a monstrous serpent beast. He sometimes walked around as a little kid to spy on people.
out of the grief and hate the people felt about their rotting world, he was created - so it is told in folklore in the story. the thing the people there dont know? for them hes actually real
its a thing like, some people really believe in the myth im going to tell you now, some dont , its like a fight of beliefs
Onryo was used in stories to scare children from doing bad or from getting into desperate situations and make them want to just live a normal life . Onryo is seen as the creator of all witches , since he offers them a contract and promises great fortune for them and their loved ones , and fullfills a wish to them
he comes to children in desperate situations and offers them to repair the broken, or to generally benefit them with the abilites they would gain
lets take an example, ellis here. he is the most fitting example for a person who would make a contract with that guy. when ellis was 12 his brother was dead, his family gone and he was lonely and depressed, onryo came to him and promised him to bring his brother back to life , which he did , since he has to fullfill the wish in order to make the contract work
now theres the thing, when you sign the contract you gain the ability of bringing chaos and misfortune to those around you, like a magnet attracting it
but the benefiting about this is that the person who made the contract will be the only one around with REALLY GOOD LUCK
like, you are basically unable to die through accidents, you dont trip, you find money on the street, stuff like that
but at the same time you are a magnet for doom to everyone around you
and heres the point of the contracts! Onryo is personified misfortune right? He is able to manipulate lives and luck, its his job
but he cant be everywhere right? So he creates those so called witches to spread misfortune to humanity.
Like for example, carous was a young 13 year old girl that wished for nothing more than having great magical abilites to help her family and her village, but she was called a witch and hunted out of the little village she lived in after that. that was hundreds of years ago (seen from the point in which we are in the story) She is really freaking old now.
now, the last two people to be in contract with onryo actually ARE ellis and carous. other witches were hunted down, murdered, or decided to end their desperate lives themselves.
Theres a special thing here though! Ellis has a special kind of contract in this story, he is basically turned into a puppet without a free will and his personality is twisted and destroyed more and more by onryo over time, to make sure he wont be able to go against the plan.
he erased his memories of the incident when he was 12 years old, and let him grow up alone, with only subconciously manipulating him sometimes
he wants to use him for a plan that will cause the biggest possible misfortune in the century. thats why he didnt choose to start sooner with his plans! also every person in a contracted has a small black x shaped mark on their downer neck (i dont know how to call it idk..)
and here we come to the last point for today! what do mutants have to do with onryos "victims"????
well there was this one witch, that had signed the contract only a few years after the existence of onryo started. depressed by the state of humanity she wished for "better" humans, sadly her concept didnt completely work, since she wasnt able to put the gene on enough humans to spread and so there was always just a few mutants around, which were treated as demonic monsters (which they WERENT for gods sake) and mutants still have strong and horrible health problems to this day. (shivas distorted vision for example)
now , if he doesnt have any powers , why is ellis considered a witch? Because people who make contracts with onryo automatically fall under that scheme actually. And dont forget about the whole "bringing doom and misfortune over your peers to benefit yourself" thing
