Carter Jones and Richard Sharpe skating their short dance to Have you met Miss Jones? and Let’s Face the Music and Dance by Robbie Williams, at the 2013 Ondrej Nepela Memorial.
okay so serious answer: she’s actually one of my DEH OCs along with her twin, Alexa, and my other character, Veronica Taylor. She’s dating @softmushie‘s Emma Naveen because Emma was dating Jared and that's No Good lmao. She’s kind of a hardass but she cares for Emma and her twin very much and would whoop Jared Kleinman’s pasty ignorant ass.

There were a million and a half ways Carter could have spent her last Saturday before school, but somehow, Emma had roped her into going to the forest.
Carter wasn’t sure what the big deal was with Emma and nature, but the girl seemed to have an affinity for it. Emma liked wandering gardens and lakes and anything that was dealing with the fresh air and sun. She liked ‘taking in the moment’, though Carter considered herself lucky to move past a moment without a hitch somewhere. Emma was good at keeping things smooth rolling––she kept Carter’s head on straight, and while Carter would likely never say it out loud, she was thankful for the blonde for it. Not a lot of things could keep Carter in line anymore.
Carter pulled the car to a stop, turning off the ignition and glancing at Emma. The other girl’s brown eyes seemed to shine in the light and her hair almost seemed angelic with the setting sun in the background. The two would have arrived sooner, but they’d had to grab their junior schedules before heading out, and the school was in the exact opposite direction of Ellison State Park.
“We only have an hour,” Carter reminded Emma for probably the fifth time. “My mom wants us in the car before it gets dark.”
“Right, right,” Emma said absentmindedly, opening the car door and stepping out.
Carter followed suit, watching the girl with a slight smile on her face.
“The sunset’s not gonna wait, you know,” Carter nagged playfully, nudging the blonde.
“Let’s go, then, Carter, c’mon!” Emma grinned at Carter, looping her hand in Carter’s as she tugged her along.
Carter let herself be dragged, chuckling under her breath as they entered the trees. The sunlight was barely obscured as they navigated the old oaks and redwoods and whatever trees inhabited the forest. Emma barely paused, seeming deadset to see something specific. Carter could recall Emma mentioning how Ellison had some of the most perfect sunsets over some lakes to the west side of the park.
“C’mon, c’mon, we can make it if we hurry!” Emma insisted, tugging on Carter’s arm some more.
“Em, please, I’m not exactly wearing the most suitable shoes for this,” Carter tried to argue, to no avail. Emma’s attention was already back to navigating them.
It only took another minute, but the two finally came to Emma’s long-awaited sight just in time. The sun was just touching behind the mountains in the distance, the golden-purple light reflecting off of an expansive, everlasting lake. Deep blue waters were calm and welcoming beneath the two, warmth radiating from the water despite the nearing cold. The sky was clear of clouds––an endless blue that faded into purple, reds, oranges, and gold.
Emma gripped the railing separating the two from the cliff-drop into the lake, her eyes bright and glowing as she watched the sun descend. Her lips were quirked to the side slightly, her teeth just hidden under her lips. Her freckles seemed to be hot embers in the light, cheeks flushed slightly. She was panting slightly from rushing to the spot, her windedness forgotten as her eyes caught the view.
Carter stared at Emma with wide, lovestruck hazel eyes.
She forced her gaze to stray to the other view, the one Emma had wanted to show her. Emma had wanted to show Carter the mountain sunset––she’d wanted to show Carter. Not Jared, despite how much she talked about him, but Carter.
Carter sighed to herself quietly, leaning against the railing as her eyes drifted back to Emma.
Yeah, she was pretty fucked.
Oh well.
The two watched their separate, beautiful views, trying to encapsulate the brief moment permanently in their minds. It was only a few minutes at most, but Carter felt like she’d been given the entire world in those minutes.
The sun disappeared behind the mountains all-too-soon, taking with it the moment.
Carter held in another sigh, smiling slightly as Emma chattered about the sunset. The stars were starting to shine overhead, the Milky Way noticeable in the clean air.
Maybe Emma has the right idea about all of this nature shit, Carter couldn’t help but think.
“I’m glad I got to share this moment with you.”
The words cut through the fuzz in Carter’s brain. Her eyes widened and her cheeks flushed, lips parting as she stared at Emma. The girl smiled at her kindly, lips curled softly and the corners of her eye crinkled the way they did when she was truly happy.
“You… are?”
Emma nodded, glancing back at the mountain briefly. “Yeah. I wouldn’t have wanted to share this view with anybody else.”
“Not even Jared?”
Emma flushed slightly and laughed.
“Not even Jared. Just you. I had a feeling you’d love the view about as much as I do.”
Emma meant the sunset, but Carter had enjoyed a whole other view in bliss. A view that could never be repeated as perfectly as it had just minutes ago.
“I’m glad I met you, Carter.”
Carter smiled.
“I’m glad I met you, too, Emma. You’re…”
“Your favorite person?” Emma’s eyes twinkled with humor and knowingness. “Yeah, I know.”
There was a brief moment––just a second––where Carter could have leaned in and kissed the other girl. She could have leaned in and made this moment the happiest in her life. Carter could have taken a chance and maybe, just maybe, created something beautiful.
Or maybe she’d ruin it. She had a tendency to do that.
Don’t take her down with you, something whispered.
Carter glanced away first. “C’mon, let’s head back home. We need to get gas on the way back.”
“Okay!” Emma chirped, none-the-wiser to Carter’s feelings.
Good, Carter thought, because that’s how it’s going to stay.
Still, Carter had one perfect moment with Emma. One moment where she could pretend they could be something. One moment where nothing but them mattered. It was only them.
